I wish they'd post the image specifications somewhere more readily findable.
$25 entry fee is a little steep for me considering the likely competition ... |

It's 4 MB max for size - I wish they would give me the longest "edge size". I have the hardest time figuring out the sizing of pictures...and I'm NO math whiz!! You guys start spitting out math equations and leave me in the dust!!!
You get up to 4 entries for the $25...that is the going rate for the contests that I've entered... |

You could try 2048 pixels on the longest dimension with proportions constrained. Most of the time that will be a little under 4MB. |

I could probably make it 5000px wide and keep it under 4MB with enough compression ... that's why I think people need to know the longest allowable side in pixels, to enable the best compromise betweeen display size and quality. |

It's just a guess as to how the images will be viewed by the "judges". I am guessing some will view on laptops. Others will view on desktop monitors. In general, if the viewing device is smaller than 2048 pixels, the system may auto adjust to screen size. I have searched and the only sizing guidance is the 4MB max file size. I think it's a good idea to avoid jpg compression, but that's just me.
I would also note the absence of any "rulesets". In that area, I think it's probably best to follow the magazine's tradition and style. I certainly don't know. I have no anticipation of winning in a contest like this. |

You'd certainly have a better chance at it than I would! Maybe we should start a side challenge with what we "would have" submitted if it had been free ... |
