Here's a few macros I took last weekend, I'm curious what you think

Macros

Thank you for any comments!

Gruesome spiders, Mark! The best ones are those that show sharp focus where it needs to have it. I believe the third photo works quite nicely to show the texture of the spider.

that spider is scary & hairy... gross!
they are nice shots. I think that they are a bit underexposed. Perhaps some adjustment levels in PS can help out with that or a reshoot using exposure lock would get rid of some of the dullness & shade on the little buggies!
Good stuff!

Nice shots, I like the first and fourth the best, I think the head-on shots are more effective for the spider. I like the bokeh and you got a nice DOF and focus on the first one. The fourt one seems to have better lighthing, but the tree/poll in the background kind of distracts from the overall photo.

The photos look a bit noisy, not sure if this is a camera limitation or perhaps you had to boost the ISO in order to expose the photos correctly. Either way, one thing you may want to consider is using a flash to add a little more lighting and dynamic shadow detail. I'll also let you let you slightly underexpose the background, drawing the viewer's attention directly to the subject.

they look good. The first is a little over exposed, the others need a little fill light on the left side. try to use a reflector. even just stiff white piece of paper will do. Here's a quasi-macro I just took. I used a small piece of white foam board to give a little extra light to the newts visible eye. It just fills it enough to get the details. either hold the reflector in your hand or clip it onto a tripod. Simple fix :)

Yea, I agree, but the problem wasn't really lack of light on the left, but way to much on the right. Because of the angle, the sun was right off the frame on the right, but mabe it would have worked anyways. The neawt pic is really good, I tried taking som lizard shots, but they're too skidish and I couldn't get close enough

Nice shots. I hate spiders so it was very tramatic for me to view them LOL I think a few of them are overexposed like was previously stated, maybe you needed to use some filters, like UV or FL or a Polarizer, depending on the type of lighting.

Lovely shots

I like No 5 the best good colour and DOF

For me, the essence of a good macro is control of the background.

Here's my latset
