that depends on if you want to win a ribbon or not.
my personal complaint about these types of challenges, is while interesting to learn about different styles, I question whether they are ever voted as intended.
Of course can they be? since we all interpret this stuff differently, that cancels out and the most visually appealing finds its way to the top. |

While this one, like many others (HCB, Street, etc), are not my cup of tea so I won't go out of my way to get an entry, but I am always tempted to give it a fair shot if an opportunity arises and I appreciate the history, links, info and opinions of fans of the genre, so I appreciate most of the posts here except the ones that really belong in this thread. ;-)
Every challenge is going to have a segment of our membership being discouraged from entering for one reason or another, but we have LOTS of challenges and I can't even imagine what my forum post count would look like if I posted my disdain for every challenge topic I groan or roll my eyes at. Besides, if getting a virtual ribbon is your only goal, you might be here for the wrong reasons.
My two cents anyway. |

Strictly fwiw, I'm not here to win virtual ribbons - hell it took me 518 challenges to win 3 ribbons so I sure suck on THAT count. But then, I feel that I ribboned on my own terms, but that's another story. (Aside to Bear...Ok now you've got my curiousity piqued, I'll check out Winogrand's stuff, but I've never knowingly seen any of his work before).
Anyhow, I live out in the country, there isn't much in the way of streets out here (let alone people WALKING on them - out here everyone over the age of 18 drives everywhere), and it's winter. Having said that, should I happen to end up downtown sometime with the new kid, I might pop off a few shots just for the helluvait. Whether I'll enter any or not, who knows. |

The most visually appealing always finds its way to the top, sometimes that's good, sometimes not.
I'll be trying to shoot completely different for this, his style is nothing like mine, this will be a hard one, the guy was a genius.

Brian, I believe you're wrong about HCB. He wasn't interested in editing his photos after he took them. He got somebody else to do it. |

thanks for the link. sometimes I wish that all challenge topics were preceded by a simple "be inspired by."

You're right (that I'm wrong). Originally I called out Ansel Adams but thought HCB more relevant to the discussion. I had forgotten that HCB also eschewed the process -- confusion probably stemming from seeing some pretty intricately made prints of his on exhibit a while back. |

The only real complaint I have about this challenge is the time of year. Too cold for good street shots. |

Ahhhh... inspired by. Makes sense. Been looking for Garry Winogrand-shaped clouds all day. Glad that's over with. |

Well if this is going to be a contest of who is more Wino-ish, I'll throw my hat in the ring. :P |

I picked up a 28mm because of this guy. Of course, I am not a street shooter, but it is a great fantasy anyway.
12 roll a day average? Sheesh...
Its all in your head. Are you a street shooter or not? I think the best photojounalists are street shooters. I am not, but I will try anyway.
Can't wait to see the entries....

Just looked through some of his stuff, he was definitely shooting an era as much as anything. Interesting variety of subjects, he shot people attending functions of sorts as well as street shots. Trying to catch anything like that during this time of year will be daunting. |

I'll have a go I think. I won't be able to blame my equipment when I don't do well though. ;-) |

I have to thank my luck really... After days of what newspapers have called 'Stormageddan' and before the next one hits tomorrow we seem to have a still day with not a cloud in the sky. Off to the city in an hour or so to make my entry. |
