Did this one a while ago, but I was going to re-create it for Framing. Please critique. Don't worry about being harsh, would love honest opinions.

Thanks,
Ara

Nice job with the black and white. I think it is great.

But then again, I thought mine was good as well. Score didn't show it.

I probably would have given it a 6. It certainly meets the challenge and carries a message. But esthetically it's not a great image although technically it's quite decent.

While we're at it, anyone want to take a stab at this one, with the Framing challenge in mind? I know it's a little soft even though I did USM before and after resizing. It was taken with the kit lens.

Thanks. I like yours too. From reading some of the threads on the Framing challenge, I suspect your score reflects the fact that a lot of people didn't think foliage could be used to "frame" and voted pics like yours down because of it.

Thanks for the comment! But, can you expand on why it isn't esthetically pleasing to you?

It probably would have been beat up since she is not entirely behind the frame and because she is a cute kiddo. I love the expression. Knowing how hard it is to capture kids that move like lightning, I can forgive the soft focus!

Actually looks like it would have been nice for Backlighting.

I like the idea of the shot very much, and the black and white looks nice. What I don't find pleasing is the way the "frame" overwhelms the pic. I think those pillars or whatever they are, take up too much of the frame - especially with being dark and out of focus. The angle of the shot also makes it look tilted in my opinion. I hope this is helpful.

I really like your image, Ara! The B&W conversion really adds to it and I love the detail you captured in the monument. Very cool! And very aesthetically pleasing!

Not to argue - you're opinion is just as valid!! But I like the weight of the frame in this image. It gives one the perspective of what a small child might see while standing in awe of the monument.
