Has anyone had trouble with Neat Image Pro in Photoshop? Sometimes when I run the auto profile then apply it, it closes my PS. It's odd. It is doing it more and more lately. Why does it? Any clue?

What version of PS and what OS are you running? How much physical memory? Do you get an error when it takes a dump, or does it just close? |

I'm running Win XP home with 256 Ram, 8 gig free hd, and what it does is weird. It closes down. But if I wait a bit, it sorta comes back - just the toolbars on the sides. Not the main window. I've clicked F and I can see the preview, save the file, get to all the alt+f, alt+v, but I can't get the main window back no matter what I do. And no, no error when it dumps.

Several months ago I was having lots of problems with all 3 photo editing programs I use. It turned out I had some sort of worm on my computer which was causing the problem. Whenever I did almost anything with my photoediting programs the whole computer would lock up and I'd have to shut down. Each time I shut down there was still something running in the background and the computer would ask me if I wanted to end task - that's how I finally tracked it down and got rid of it. Now, I can't even remember the name.
Open the task magnager and see what you have running in the background. Once I decided it must be a virus or something that was causing my problems I'd leave the task manager on all the time and check what the system resources were doing. As soon as I'd start editing a picture several more things would come open i the task manager and my system usage would jump way up.
You might want to run your virus program and see if it finds anything. I use McAfee now and it finds worms, trojans, spyware and adware along with viruses. |

From the behavior, I would not suspect a worm/virus. 256MB is definitely the absolute minimum for XP, and if your swap file is size-limited, this might contribute, but I'd think you'd get an error if you were running out of memory.
More likely that there is a software issue. You might try updating the drivers for your video card, if you're confident doing so. You could also try unistalling/reinstalling PS and/or NI, since a file may have been "updated" that shouldn't have. This sometimes happens when you install another app later, and all of a sudden wind up with misbehavior of a previously-installed app that also used the file. |
