Well for your very first shot with what can be a complicated piece of equipment, I think you did a bang up job. I think you did a bang up job regardless! I like the composition - the way the twigs move the viewer's eye around. The colors are very vibrant and I like the expression you've captured of the bird. Now some die-hard bird shooters will tell you that your subject isn't sharp enough. But I think it's a wonderful photo. You should print it out and hang it as a momento of the Rebel's maiden voyage :-)

its nice indeed. better than most of my bird shots with my 75-300.

Wow, am I ever impressed!!!!! That is fantastic even if you had been using the camera for years!

Fantastic first shot! Great composition, subject DOF. I think it shows a little motion blur, that's why the bird looks a bit soft. If you were at 300mm you need to use a tripod.

Will be watching your posts! I am lens hunting myself for my new 300D.

Nice shot, Oliver! Sure beats the first shot i took with my 10D, I think it was a pic of a lamp in my home office :P

i was at 300...i have learned that it does blur it a bit, will try to use at 300 with tripod to improve

lol I wanted to try out my new lens by taking a photo of a bird and got luck with this one so it made my first shoot extra special
