Uh Cory, methinks you're forgetting something....snow. You live in a nice dry deserty area, where I'm sure it's much easier to find dead critters, skeletons etc just laying there in plain view. But right now, there simply isn't much fauna - dead or otherwise - to be found.

Winter in the mountains is the time of much starvation and death of animals. It's not hard to find dead animals. However, the recycling system in very dynamic. Death is a part of life. It does not take more than a few days for animals to be recycled. By Spring, we only see a few remnants of bones.
