I think it'd be a relatively ease thing to do, and a great feature for posters that want to refer to a specific forum post. The "Permalink" feature would allow users to link directly to a single post, much like blogs allow linking to individual blog entries.

The other BBS's use a forum post ID to directly link to a specific post, either by using it to determine what thread it is in and scrolling to the post, or by displaying the post in isolation.

Here, each post seems to have a post ID, as seen in the source for the page, but using a format similar to what displays a thread it just sends me to the forum main page.

The format I tried is used is //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_POST_ID=901822 <-- the second post in the thread. But as you can see it does not work as expected, so either the format isn't the same as for a thread or it is not implemented.

Regardless, it seems the database requirements are already present, it is just a matter of using it to produce the desired results.

David,

Exactly, since each post automatically receives a unique ID, it's just a matter of implementing the feature. I think that this would be a great feature for frequent board posters to use. If the site managers are "listening," I'll thank you in advance for considering this feature.
