Photographer Saul Leiter has died. Very sad, as he was just getting his due with the help of a recently produced documentary film on his life and work. But what a life and what a legacy.

It was all about the photograph not about photography.

Ave atque vale.

He was something, wasn't he? I remember seeing some of his work when I was in art school in NYC, this must have been 1967, and being blown away. Completely. I'm sorry he's passed.

"I am not immersed in self-admiration. When I am listening to Vivaldi or Japanese music or making spaghetti at 3 in the morning and realize that I donĂ¢€™t have the proper sauce for it, fame is of no use."

-Saul Leiter, from his New York Times obituary
