As this was my second challenge ever, I think I scored it pretty good.
Thank you to all voters!
I would love to hear some critiques though, especially the bad one - from all those who thought my picture was worth less then a 5.
Is it just a matter of personal taste or is there something technically I was doing wrong here?
Also, Would love to here your opinion re my outtake for this challenge:
Thanks a lot!!

Well, I won't be much help in commenting on what's wrong with it as I gave you a 9. It was one of my favorites of the challenge. I couldn't even begin to explain how you got so many votes 5 and below. I was wondering that myself. I guess just a matter of taste, 'cause it's a clearly "framed subject by a forground object" and a quite striking one at that. Maybe the OOF back subject? But I liked that, maybe it's just a little too OOF? I don't know... hopefully you'll get some comments from someone that can shed some light on why it didn't appeal to them or what they thought it was missing. :-)
I wouldn't worry about it too much though, as a 6.2 is a score to be very proud of and you placed very well, especially for your second challenge. I look forward to see more of your work! I think you chose the correct shot to enter though. I like your other shot, but I think your submitted entry was much better for this challenge. |

Thanks a lot for the comments!!
I am proud of myself for the score :-) I'm just looking to learn...
If someone gave me a 5 or less just cause they didn't like the pic - I don't mind. Not arguing about taste. But if I can improve - I'd love to know that.
By the way,
you think this one is any better, since the "background" is in the focus?

Hard to say, I think I might like the crop of the second one better, but then you lose alot of the textures in the first sculpture which, IMHO, adds so much to the shot. I think maybe a little mix of the two? I know, I know... I'm not much help, am I? :-) Someone else that knows what they're talking about really needs to throw in their 2cents. ;-) |

The FIRST (original) is way better for me. Better lighting, better composition, and mood.
I gave the first one a 5 - but think I was a bit harsh in retrospect.
The top left and bottom left triangles of the image just out there "stranded" outside the frame was one reason, the line ofthe table top "splitting" the back statue was another. Finally, the border did not help for me. The soft focus on the back status was a real PLUS for me. It added mystery and was not reall "too" soft. Keep up the good work! |

One of my favorites of the challenge as well. I gave it a 9. Sometimes this place surprises and disappoints me. |

Edit: I decided to move my outtakes to another thread as this one wasn't maybe a general outtakes thread, sorry. Here is my thread: //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=123227
