1.- you may have a point, anonymity is a ruse.
2. you can have that copyright on the photo subsequent to the challenge
3. Anybody with an old version of Photoshop can clone out 1 copyright symbol.
4. the image size of entries is such a charged topic, some say it is so small, who would want it? |

There is some anonymity here, and you need that for voting. If we all start putting our names on the photos, what's to stop people from saying, "Oh, I like Stewart, he's a nice guy. TEN!" or "Oh, Larry. What an ass. ONE!"? Some people's photos are easy to pick out but not all. And no one was voting on the Mona Lisa.
As blindjustice said, they can clone out the copyright just as easily as they can print screen and paste your photo in to Photoshop. if an image thief wants to snag a photo, they will.

For me, these endless discussions always come down to "if you can't tolerate having a photo stolen, don't post it on the internet"
...and for the record, Larry is ok and Stewart's the ass.

The images are sans copyright notices only for the challenge voting. You can opt to display an automatic copyright notice on all your images otherwise.
The SC does a decent job of making the images less than easy to steal, like overlaying them with a 1x1 image that you get instead of the desired image if you right-click on it and do a save image as...
A fair amount of thought and angst has gone into this issue through the years, and I think we have a fairly decent set of compromises.

DreamWorks obviously stole it from Larry & Stewart. |

You're probably right. I am voting down any images I see from Larry, Stewart or Spielberg. |

Having the copyright symbol is not that important because it isn't required by law (at least in the US). What is important is that anyone that shows an image or enters it in a challenge have it registered first. Then if someone does take your image and use it for something commercial, you have some real teeth behind you to sue the pants off of them if it's worth doing. I've made almost as much money from images of mine that were used with out my permission as I have pictures I sold when I was did paying photography work. It's funded a number of other expensive hobbies and allowed my wife to do some traveling. And this was only possible because I had the images registered. I only had to have my lawyer write a letter once out of the 5 times. So register then post your jaw droppers. It could pay off. :D

So is that why only a dozen people out of the hundreds here are willing to vote on my Delta contest entry? They think I'm an ass? So if you just pretend the image belongs to your best friends and vote once a day, okay? :) VOTE HERE |

FWIW - which is pretty bang on bugger all - Ken gets more stick than he gives, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't whack him.

I'd bet that Ken didn't even register that Larry and Stewart were real people on this thread. He may have thought they were hypothetical photographers, easy targets for harmless mockery.
If I'm wrong, I think we'd better stay the hell off his lawn. |
