Ah, the good old days. Remember the threads where someone would say, "I've got a 6.2 but with only 70 votes, it's early. Wait for the 100 vote check-in." By the time we'd received 100 votes, scores tended to settle down.
I haven't received 100 votes in the last 10 challenges, let alone before rollover. And that includes the ever popular free study. No one has!
Best I can figure - the only ones voting lately are in the TPL. The numbers are approximately right.
To all you 'members' out there, I am ashamed of 90% of you who can't bother to vote.
We vilify the 1% - we shouldn't, they are the part of the registered users who bother enough with DPC to vote. I am ashamed of you 99%-ers. |

For the record I'm not on a team and I vote in 99% of the challenges. When I vote I vote for 100% of the images. I have however limited my entries and I just requested a self dq for negative space.
Personally I am disappointed with the "everything is always wrong" attitude that is here. We vote wrong, we interpret challenges wrong, we spell wrong...really it never ends. I will continue to vote on the challenges and I will enter the last two free studies. Then it is time to reevaluate what my goals are here. |

That's kind of harsh. I was gonna write more, but are you part of the problem or part of the solution. See Enlightened's post... |

We all wish everything we love was better, it does not mean we love it any less in it's lesser days. I'm sure it was intended as a rallying cry, not an attack. |

I agree with Brennan - think DrC was trying to rally the troops. Personally I only miss voting when on holiday, otherwise I vote 100% on all challenges, as my Votes Cast: 148,865 would indicate. Don't think it has anything to do with TPL at all.

I have to apologize...This has been bothering me all week and I have to apologize to Dr.Confuserand all who posted here. Yes I was upset, yes I do think this site is negative sometimes and yes sometime I question if I will renew but I think we all do sometimes. I had more going on than the post that was made here. I had just found out at 12:30am that my dog Saffron just had a stroke and was paralyzed on the full left side and from her hips back. She was going to be 14 in Dec and I was emotional. I could not be with her at the time, she was visiting my parents when it happened and I couldn't sleep. I logged on to DPC and I saw this post. I do think now that it was meant to be a rally cry. I did send an e-mail to dq myself but I didn't follow through. The update button has managed to take my mind off things at times this week.
I am sorry for my post and for jumping down DrC's throat and I am thankful for Tiny, MikeO, BrennenOB and Leo for joining in on the conversation.
My "puppy" Saffron was put down at 11:05 Monday and I am still heartbroken. My daughter doesn't remember life without her in it. She had her own armchair and when anyone looked like they were going to sit in it she ran as fast as she could to get there first ...the chair is empty... |

Aww. Sorry about your pup...
But don't take back ALL of your first post - you clearly defined a problem here - it seems that someone is always complaining about what is wrong, what should change, etc. They need to just take a step back, realize what is GREAT about this place, and appreciate it for what it is. Sorta like that whole "love me for who I am" thing.

I think the OP has it wrong. The answer is much simpler, and can't be fixed with a rallying cry. There are fewer people playing. Fewer people in challenges, fewer in forums, fewer voting, fewer commenting. There are simply fewer of us. |

Got to agree with these comments. I rather miss the snot kicking, screaming in your face, rants and the players that participated in them.
Bland and almost lifeless is what this site has become, and that might be due to the fact that many take personal offence to comments made on a photo.
I have had many differences of opinion with Posthumous and others on a myriad of issues, but discussions were civil and never personal.
Sadly, verbal jousting almost seems a thing of the past.

Don't blame the voters. In the distant past, there use to be enough "good stuff" entered that it was easy to vote the minimum amount so that they count... and if I voted the minimum amount I'd usually vote all the way through. I've seen so little of the "good stuff" in a long time that I don't even look at very many of the challenges any more. It's not quantity that makes the difference, it's quality of the images that are entered that will bring the votes out. Maybe it's the selection of challenges that are being presented or maybe the interest just isn't there any more. What ever it is, if there was enough there so I'd have that desire to see the images do well in voting, I'd vote. Maybe there should be a few challenges where people could vote as few as they wanted and they would count... I wonder how many would get no votes?

I have not voted lately. I have not entered lately.
What is going on in my life, and how I spend my time is none of your business.
I do not vote, let alone live, to please another member. Last I looked my membership is paid, the rest does not seem to be covered in the terms of service.
Sign me unabashed and unashamed... |
