The general question pertains to candid shots. How can one obtain "model release" in a candid, STREET shot?
1x has now a new agreement, mainly pertaining the possibility of selling the pictures through a third party also and I just read this:
3.3 You warrant that you have all the necessary model releases and that you have obtained all the necessary approvals from persons that appear in Your Photograph(s) to grant to 1x the rights indicated under Section 2 above.
We see harrowing documentary pictures on 1x form so many parts of the world - what is the model release in that instance?
A lot of DPCers sell prints but I noticed that there are mostly landscapes. Is it because they sell better?
Can you throw some lights please on this issue?

That sounds more like they are trying to work out an arrangement to market images as stock -- you should not need a model release to sell individual prints.
"Street" shots without a release could only be licensed for "editorial use" as stock images; probably much less "valuable" unless of some breaking disaster ... |

In Germany you do - actually you need the permission of the model/person just to show the shot of the model/person online (it does not have to be a formal model release, but if it is in writing one is of course on the safe side), and even more so if you want to sell the shots. Street shots are, therefore, always a bit of a gray area. It's a bit of a risk decision - either you take it or you don't. |
