Was wondering if one or more experts could provide a little help my way?

Using lightroom 4 I was trying to reorganize my catalogs. I have a catalog that is too big and affects performance. It covers about 2.5 years of photo's. I tried to break it down into 1 year intervals. I created a new catalog in lightroom. In the original catalog, I selected several folders and removed them from that catalog. I then imported the folders into the new catalog. When I looked at the images in the new catalog, all the processing work I did on the raw photo's appears to be lost.

I do not have a backup of the catalog unfortunately!!

Has anyone seen this and is it recoverable? (crosses fingers!)

Were you working on JPEGs or RAW?

Do you remember whether you were using sidecar files? If so, there should be .xmp files with the same name as the others in the folders (in some formats, like JPEG, the information is stored in the file rather than the sidecar (so it would be safe there.)

If you chose to save the settings in the catalog, you may be out of luck! The way to do what you did was to export the folders as a new catalog from Lightroom, then delete the folders.

Hope you have sidecar files!

Note that LR also does it's own backups, if you let it. You mean you never, in all the years, made a backup of that drive, or let it do a backup? (not judging, just asking!)

Thanks for the answer Neil. No, I did not make a backup... living on the edge! I do have all my important pictures exported as .jpg to smugmug so all would not be completely lost. Looks like I just lost my PP work on the raw files.

I suppose I need to change my workflow once again.
