Hi, I would like to enter this photo in a competition; however, I need to know what kind of tree this leaf is from. Any tree people out there?

Also, what do you think of the photo?

I like that picture - lots of bright, rich color. Might look better vertical, though.

And I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that's a mulberry. Good luck with the competition!

You know what, I bet you are right. The birds do tend to leave purple spots on my car quite regularly!

Thanks.

I think Philip is correct,

Good picture, I agree with the vertical suggestion, would have done ok in the backlit challenge maybe.

Unfortunately, I had to edit out a few distracting details, so this one was not eligible for backlighting. Thanks.

Looks like a Sycamore, but you ought to do a web search for Sycamore because it could also be a Tulip tree. I don't have my Tree ID book here at work. Did the tree trunk turn from bark at the base to a mottled appearance halfway up? That is the easiest way for me to tell if the smooth bark farther up the tree is mottled with green, gray, brown, and tan. Good luck.

Looks like a Texas Mulberry Morus microphylla

Having a little horticulture background, the first thing I thought of when I saw it was a Fig Leaf.

...and then I looked up mulberry. I do agree, the fruit or bark from the tree would be helpful of course. Here is a Red Mulberry...matches pretty closely to your leaf.
