I've seen the documentary. Very interesting. Photography was her freedom, her escape, her peace. Does the same for me as well.

She followed her muse; without feedback or accolades, and did so throughout her life. She did so in a vacuum of response and created an important body of work which was only shown to the world because of some stranger who has shown her work to the world. I often wonder if she could have produced her steady work in the hot house world of 1X, 500px and our little corner of the digital world. Some times following the little drummer in your own head is a wonderful thing

I found myself looking for a silly like button, but you get the drift.

You mean she wasn't always whining about not getting comments on her work? She couldn't have been a real photographer then. Not like us.

Exhibit Reveals Hidden Talent of Street Photographer Vivian Maier
Vivian Maier made a living as a nanny in mid-20th century Chicago. She always had a camera with her, but it wasn't until just before her death in 2009 that Maier's trove of photographs - and striking talent - were discovered in a storage facility. Her intimate and revealing photographs of the streets of Chicago have been a sensation at exhibits around the world and are now being exhibited in Northern California for the first time.

This is an old thread, but there is some recent news about her work.
Legal Battle

i have a real problem with this lawsuit. Maloof (The guy who buys the negatives) tracks down who he believes is the rightful heir and promotes and advances Maier's work. He is probably solely responsible for her exposure and fame.

Now some lawyer come's along in an attempt to find the rightful heir, a guy who took it upon himself to find someone who doesn't even know they have a connection to Maier in an attempt to make sure this person gets what is rightfully theirs? something stinks bad about this.

I quite agree. While the lawyer pretends that his intent is to protect the rightful heirs, I believe what is really driving him is getting a chunk of the estate value for himself. The "estate" did not exist at her passing. The value was entirely created by those that preserved and promoted her work. Her "heirs" who never knew her deserve nothing, IMO, and the lawyer deserves less than nothing.
