can you guys make it so when someone clicks the back button on their browser, it goes back to the last place you were at? not just the last page, but the actual place you were scrolled to on that page?

(ie: if I was scrolled down to the bottom, that's where it would bring me)

Am I wording it right?

it seems like a simple fix, but maybe not

That is most likely a browser problem, not a part of the site coding.

Some of the less well developed browsers have this behavior, and I experienced it myself while trying out FireFox a week or so ago. Now I am back with IE and don't have this issue anymore.

What browser are you using? Are you seeing this behavior on all sites? ...just this one? ...on all pages? ... or just a few?

There's no reason to believe it's the browser any more than it's the server. However, that it works in a broken browser (IE/win) and not in working (i.e. compliant) browsers (IE/mac, mozilla, etc.) makes one wonder if it really is the browser. Likely, it is a Cache-Control and/or Pragma header issue.

I just poked around for a few minutes and I was unable to replicate this problem. I'm on WinXP, with IE6.

Safari works fine for me on Mac. Do you have vers. 1.2? Maybe delete out the cache, throw away the preferences and download it again.
Sometimes just throwing out the preferences will help.

You on OSX? search for this in /username*/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
or just put the com.apple.Safari.plist in the top little search thingy. then toss that in the trash.

I'm using NS 7.1 on Windows and do have this problem. It could be related to a browser setting that determines whether to get the page from the server or the cache. If the setting is to always get it from the server then that is most likely the issue since the page will load as if you've never seen it before. This seems to happen all the time in NS 7.1 regardless of browser property setting.

He said that it behaves the way he expects in Safari too.

I'm pretty sure no-store is overkill in cache-control.

Safari works,
only IE:mac ver. 5.2 doesn't do it.
