Just got an email from Topaz that ReMask is on sale for half off right now. This is one of the tools they create which I have been contemplating getting, but $70 was too much for the number of times I try to mask complicated images.

But $35 isn't too bad.

So I'm looking for opinions from those with this software.

Is it easy to use for someone who has trouble masking with the lasso?
Are you happy with the results you get?
Are there better alternatives that you have tried in the same price range?

Thanks!

I don't think you can do better.

It's my go-to tool for masking.

It doesn't do magic. Easy edges (clear, with good contrast) make the job super easy with remask.
Difficult edges such as fur and fly-away hair are still difficult edges. With those types of selections, you still have to work for it, but at least I CAN get things done that I wouldn't manage without it.
Photoshop CS6 has a number of edge refining tools built in, but I find ReMask easier to work with.

So yes, I think it is a good program, just don't expect it to do all your dirty work for you by itself :-)

I'm sure you could download a trial version and give it a go before you buy.

It's light years ahead of where you're at now, for sure. At the price, it's a no-brainer.

If you have the combo kit, contact Topaz. You won't get it free, but you should be able to get it cheap. B&W effects and one or two others have come out since I bought the pack. When I asked, they sent me a discount code to add in the ones that were not in my original pack, at much better pricing.

Just another to echo what others have said. It's what I use for any sort of masking that is detailed. It isn't always instant, but it tends to work pretty damn well overall. I got it for around that price when it first came out and haven't questioned the cost of buying it, despite the fact that I don't often need to do masking of that nature all that often. The times that I do, however, it more than pays for itself in ease.
