As promised, a resized version of my "Fairy tale" submission original, for the people who expressed an interest in viewing it.
Not a lot of work put out..only a little dodging and burning to emphasise the light coming through the tree canopy. The image was already quite soft due to slight blurring (Slow shutter speed)but gave it a final run through "neat image" to give the"Illustrated" feel.
I was very close to submitting this (which I preferred) but felt it might be too dark for some monitors and would lose too much detail if viewed in bright light conditions.
Thanks to all who voted and commented.

You're right the second one may have been viewed as too dark, however, to me it has way more impact than the one you entered. Well done on both of them.

I like both but a bit more the second one. It has more mystery for me and looks great on my monitor. Actually I was sure that you would get a ribbon and I am disappointed (spelling?) with the results of this challenge. |

I like the second one a lot better as it has much more impact, but I don't think it would have done as well in the challenge. As you pointed out, it is too dark for a lot of monitors here, but also it does not directly say anything about a fairy tale -- and the title seems to be shoehorning it into a tale that (at least to any telling I've heard) it does not closely match.

David,
Thanks for the input, I see the point you are making and to be honest, I think that the same amount of "Shoehorning" could be attributed to my submission..in the respect that it doesn`t really depict a fairy tale any more than my outtake.I honestly didn`t see that as a priority when considering this challenge as the wording of it led me to believe that we should try to create the feeling of a fairy tale world and the type of situation or characters that you would expect to meet.
A look through the challenge would suggest that a great deal of submissions were of the same persuasion..including the ribbon winners.
I have always been impressed by the dark and sinister quality of fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel and in "This way to Granny`s house" I have just combined the influences of the two to get an overall spooky feel.
I do accept though that it doesn`t depict any particular fairy tale in any detail and if I have miscalculated and that was the point of this challenge then it fails miserably.

You are correct, the challenge was not about depicting a specific fairy tale, but of making the characters and creatures (things?) of those tales appear real. Your second image does that well, I was just commenting (perhaps poorly with my general wording) on how the title is pushing it toward a specific tale the image in itself does not protray to me. It may have done well with a less specific title.

Yes, I take your point David..the title was something I didn`t give proper thought to, as by this time I had already submitted the alternative to the challenge. :)
