To all of you who entered, you have really outdone yourselves ! I really got tired of handing out such high scores and finding complementry comments for such beautiful and well executed shots ! :)

Still climbing! What a great score for me with so many wonderful shots to compete with! Oh, If I could just break 6 this time I would be so inspired.

Low voters are in da house!
After going up from the start my photo was 0.83 higher until short time ago, then it looked like the low voters were in da house! I've been falling by 0.1 with the last few votes. I guess this has happened with many of us at the same time, so this shouldn't infect anything else than just the average votes. :-) But I'm happy with this roller coaster ride, it's higher now than in the beginning, this is the opposite of what I've seen with the other challenges.
I just hope the roller coaster breaks when it is at the highest point and it'll be stuck there, if that will happen, then this is the right roller coaster for me, although I know it could go higher. :-P hahaha

grrr, 4 votes since my last post and I think this damn roller coaster is not going to break down, it's now at full speed down, almost 0.7 lower now after 4 votes since the last post just minutes ago. I've received 59 votes.
Hey, maybe it will break down at even higher at the next top!!? :-)

I was sitting at x.4815 and fell down to x.3390 after receiving three or four additional votes. Ouch!

Looks like it may be my second best score ever, still rising. But looking at the other enties, no ribbon here. |

Assuming (judging by the time) that there were 60 votes after the score reduction then it seems unprobable that the 'x' is greater than 6, even a 6 would requre 3-4 voters going no higher than a 2. Now it is unlikely that a high rated pic would get 3-4 bad votes together (although not unheard of), thus it is most probable that the x is a 4 or 5.
Of course, Beagleboy may have been reflecting on an earlier incident, if this is the case then you can safely ignore the logic of the above.
Keep smiling :)

I have to mumble about my score a little more...I was honestly expecting to see it around the 6.0 - 6.3 mark this morning when I logged on because I was very happy with it and I thought it was a dpc-type photograph.
Right now I'm at 4.2879 and I only have one comment so far so I have no idea what the problem is... |

I just made my first pass voting and gave everyone a 5. When I go back through, I'll give addtional points as follows:
1 pt if their image makes me want to go there.
2 pts if their image makes me want to visit a while.
3 pts if their image makes me want to take the family for an extended stay.
4 or 5 pts for Best of Show
I haven't decided if I'll give any penalty points, but if I do, I'll try to comment.
Judging from I've seen so far, I'm lucky I missed the deadline...

I'm not expecting anything anymore, but this seems to be my personal best. Well only a little bit over 6 and going down since everyone is giving me 6 now. But if that continues I will hang above that 6 in the end I think.
Btw, I think I have never voted so high before myself. Many good pictures in this challenge.

Now x.2911. Double ouch!
EDIT
Make that x.2593 with one more vote. Going to the dentist is better than this! LOL!

Oh you are still x something. I wonder, will it be x-1.999 or w.999 and if it's going very well it will be y.001 ? ;)
Just wondering. |

I thought I finally had a 6+ photo. I've only ever had one photo get that high, and I wasn't expecting that, but this is the first one I really thought would. And, I have no comments with a 5.3. Arghhh.

Well the same thing happened to me not quite so bad but went from 4.5 to 3.7 of course it was early days and votes counted much more then but that makes it a tough climb back up.

What is the purpose of doing this? You could have done your voting mehod as you went. Instead you have made yourself possibly get your votes discounted (if you don't adjust them), for suspicious voting trend.

I usually make 3-4 passes at voting, because one view is just not enough. There are too many details that can get lost. I use my first pass is for visual orientation, then I start nudging. In the event I couldn't make another pass, I would find it rather amusing to have a whole slew of unadjusted 5s thrown out...

I find your voting style very strange and improper. Why did you bother voting every photo with 5? I can't see that you are any closer to your final conclusion.
What does the quality of a photo have to do with if you want to go to the place where the photo is taken or not? If I would have taken a lousy snapshot photo in Disneyworld, would you then have given it a 8!!? Thanks god that I didn't take my photo in Baghdad in Iraq! People are photographing different places all over the world, and the place isn't the point. It can be the most beautiful place in the world and you love looking at the place on the photo, but the photo itself is just a snapshot with no effort or skills of the photographer. You should be giving votes according to how good or bad work the photographer have done with the photo, not how much you would like to go to the place where it's taken...
This voting style makes me wonder...

If you have been voting like this in past challenges, you must have given a lot of 6 & 7 in the last nude challenge... :-P hehe
At least you should reconsider your voting style in this challenge.

I had to start some place, and I thought starting with 5 was fair.

Well, I can safely say that a lousy snapshot of Disneyland would not make me want to go there, and therefore wouldn't score higher.

Well, if you were there and you came up with the right image, you might make me want to go there.

I think you missed my whole point...
Look at the challenge this way: all the images are in a travel guide. You, the voter, are browsing the travel guide. If the photographer did what you have described--that is, make an effot to capture an image of a place that would capture a reader's imagination and make them want to do more than flip the page--they will be awarded more points.
As far as quality goes, that is a given. If it's really not there, I'll probably give out some penalty points.

I agree with this and should be how you tend to look at this voting, but I just don't get the voting 5 on ALL of them. You don't look at one that is obviously of very poor quality and does not meet the challenge and give it a 5? I vote and go back through and look at them again and adjust them, most of the time. But, I like to have that original GUT feeling of when I first see it. Like WOW! OOOOHH!! F*%# YEAH! and have that feel go into that initial vote. And those types I usually don't adjust, except up!

I started out voting like that, but I found that sometimes my interpretation of the challenge was too far out there. That drove me to viewing all the images once to establish a visual orientation just to get a feel for the interpretation. It also allows me to treat the 23 bug macro the same way I treated the first 22 (as opposed to trending them down).
The reason I started with 5 was that I've voted enough to assume that the digital camera is going to handle a lot of the base details, and that most images are going to get points for meeting the challenge and technical merit. What's left but composition, creativity, and the WOW factor? (Obviously, you deduct when an image is really nothing more than a lousy snapshot...) |

Anyone who spends enough time to go through all the photos 3 or 4 times before finnaly settling on a score is okay with me. I think it should be complimented. I certainly dont give voting that much time. |
