How about "Cats" ?
Advanced editing.

Many of us live with them and if not there has to be one in the neighborhood
or on safari or at the zoo.

Heh. Read this article today about cats... //www.nbcnews.com/health/cat-poop-parasite-controls-minds-early-permanently-study-finds-4B11194722

This is how crazy cat ladies are made! ;P

Great idea. I don't have a cat, but a visit to the zoo would be fun.

Yep, good ol toxoplasmosis...one of the breeders I got one of my girls from recently warned me away from a local breeder, as her cats carry toxoplasma. And other yucky things that I don't want my cats exposed to.

But yeah, I love me them cat challenges!!!

How about expand to pets. I get very bored with cat photos, and I am pretty certain I'm not the only one.

Sure it could be expanded to pets, but an awful lot of cat pics do well here.

FWIW most pro photogs I met during my modelling career and since then often have cats for pets as opposed to dogs - because they provide companionship just as well as any dog. And they are much less likely to cause damage to equipment. I like dogs well enough, but the thought of at least one client's exuberant young half-grown Lab running free in a photo studio is enough to make my blood run cold.

Finally, a lot more people are afraid of dogs than cats. I'm in homes all the time, and have yet to have any client ask me if I have issues with their cat being around while I work :-)

1x does weekly themes and last week it was cats. There were 790 entries
and some of them were extraordinary. Since we're running between 40 to 70
entries per challenge maybe the cat people will come out for a round.

Why don't we specify cats, but if there happens to be a dog or another animal in the shot, that's great?

I like cats, but its pleasant enough when people try to shoehorn them into all types of challenges- perhaps if they had their own, people might be satisfied enough for a while.

Whenever I see the word "cat" I think of this ...

INSTRUCTIONS FOR GIVING YOUR CAT A PILL

1. Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat’s mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of 10.

5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of closet. Call spouse in from garden to help.

6. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, holding front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold cat’s head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat’s throat vigorously.

7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

8. Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with its head just visible from below spouse’s armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force cat’s mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

9. Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink glass of water to take taste away. Apply band-aid to spouse’s forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

10. Retrieve cat from neighbor’s shed. Get another pill. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

11. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put door back on hinges. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Throw T-shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

12. Call fire department to retrieve cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap.

13. Tie cat’s front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table. Find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed. Force cat’s mouth open with small spanner. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of filet steak. Hold head vertically and pour 1/2 pint of water down throat to wash pill down.

14. Get spouse to drive you to emergency room; sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye.
Stop by furniture shop on way home to order new table.

15. Arrange for the vet to make a housecall.

LOL!!! That's a really good variation on that list! #6 has always been my go-to move and is pretty reliable except on my small, older cat, Lily - she weighs a tad over 5 lbs and is tiny (and declawed too thank gawd), but she sure can sling that little head around like a hooked muskie and squirm like crazy to get free!

ETA: GeneralE forgot that list for dogs: #1 Wrap pill in bacon.

I've heard more complaints of cats peeing in the photographer's camera bag than I have of dogs. If a person had a cat, I never left my bag where they could get to it.

When my cats got sick, they each also fought medication tooth and nail.

I finally resorted to a modified version of the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy and if that didn't work (it usually did)
off to the vet they went.

I've had squirrels pee in my camera bag more often than my cats...

Wow, I've never heard of a cat peeing in someone's camera bag. Certainly I have no worries that way, though I keep my camera bag zipped up anyway to keep out any outside contaminants like dust, dirt, rain, snow, cat hair etc.

However, a few years ago a friend's Standard Poodle stud had a HUGE ol piss all over my camera bag...right after she had reassured me that he wouldn't. She thought it funny, she was laughing as she sponged his pee off my bag. I wasn't very amused.

But although cats will certainly mark over another cat's scent (as will dogs over another dog's pee), I've never heard of a camera bag being peed in or on by a cat.

Maybe photogs should wash their camera bags every so often?

It'd sluice right off. Heck, if it were a big enough cat, the case FLOATS.
