There are only about 4 South Dakota folks who have ever actually submitted to a challenge, and it was almost 3 years ago for anybody here except me - and a couple folks were 8 hours away. I might have luck with someone from Minnesota, but it's probably hours of a journey.
I'm not sure I'm keen on this during TPL - those of us in remote spots are at a bit of a disadvantage. (I think it's a fun idea, but I'm not it's feasible for me to make happen at the moment - although maybe I can convince some other DPCer to come help with some basement work - ey - anybody?) |

I think one of our brightest stars lives in SD. |

Like Jules1x, as much fun as this might be, to do it in the middle of the TPL potentially handcuffs a multitude of participants from being included in one of the weekly challenges. As a month-long one-off not included? Sure, could be fun. Otherwise, I'm truly hoping that it doesn't pop up. |

+1
The only members I know are my wife & kids. While photogenic, it seems to be outside the spirit of the challenge, since between them they've entered four challenges (none since 2008). |

DPC and it's challenges should not have to revolve around an unofficial tournament.

Agreed. And yet, a challenge that likely invites an even lower percentage participation than what we see in some of the recent stuff (41 entries for Incandescence?! You'll be lucky to get 1/2 that) seems rather ridiculous under any circumstances. |

While I understand your point in principle, I think TPL helps foster some positive things like increased challenge participation and user communication, and it seems wise for DPC to try to be reasonably accommodating of such activities. Postponing or changing the time frame of this particular challenge seems like a reasonable thing. |

I am pretty sure I'm the only DPCer in the Knoxville area. The closest person I can think of is Karmat, and she's on the other side of the mountains. It just doesn't seem like a terribly practical challenge...not that things need to be practical mind you...but this would be a pain in the ass. |

Get a friend or family member to join. Then they have an entry, as do you. Eh wala.

Which sort of defeats the entire idea of the challenge, that being getting out and meeting other members. What you're suggesting might as well just be portraits of another photographer. |

It's a moot point IMO...
Karen took a picture of her sister Sharon and vice versa...
Steve's wife took a picture of him
Lydia took a picture of her son
PennyClick took a picture of Bear
timfythetoo and his kids all took pictures of each other.
Pennystreet took TVsometime's and vice versa...
Neil took a picture of his son...
Wendy took a picture of JCar...
So IMO if you can hold a camera, take a picture and post it...you should be able to enter...
and by having this for an "open challenge" then it encourages those that are out there and only registered... |

And thus proof that nepotism is always welcome at DPC. Forgive me if I sound jaded, but after 8 years here I've seen far too many images ribbon simply because an easily recognizable model was used. |

In all honesty I am simply calling things as I see them. Yes, it's always cute to see kids mature on DPC.
But, to me, relying on the same model(s) ad nauseum, is just as blatant as priming the pump by posting your potential entries on Facebook, and *innocently* asking for feedback...knowing full well that several fellow DPCers whom you have friended will see your entry well in advance. Don't tell me that they won't then be inclined to vote more favourably on it than, say, an equally well done or better image featuring someone who is a stranger here.
The DPC emperor is butt-naked. Just sayin, cause nobody else here has the guts to say it.

Yeah, you're a regular Rosa Parks. Thanks for throwing a wet blanket on what would be a fun challenge for many of us. |
