For all of the people with only one or even none of those ribbons and can't take part in the master challenge as we stand, there could be a very interesting month for us. If the admins would add some extra speed challenges, maybe 2-4 of them over the month, then those people would have more chance of getting in the master's club! And maybe even one speed challenge where only the people not in the master's club can take part in, that would add more interest for those people to add more effort into their submissions.
I'm not against this idea of the master's free study challenge. Maybe it would have been better to name it something else than "master's" because that can be the main reason of many of the angry voices around here in the forums about this challenge. I hope that a challenge like this will be going on 3-4 times a year, I think there will be higher average votings in this challenge, I look forward to the voting period at least.
I think we're going to have an interesting month where people (with 0-1 ribbons) will add more effort into the challenges and I think it will result better submissions in average this month. People will try harder to get into the "club".

There have been innumerable suggestions for additional challenges made already in the previous discussions. My advice would be to wait patiently and check the site frequently for the next few days and see what develops ... the site admins have plenty of ideas to consider and limited time available to code them, but I see no reason your's wouldn't be incuded in the mix.
See these threads for a more complete discussion and links to further discussion:

Sir, yes sir!
I read some of it before adding this thread, I just found it interesting to know what other people think of this idea. The other threads are somewhat negative and more "general" than what I had in mind. I'm not waiting for what the admins think, I doubt they will answer this (although I appreciate their thoughts), but there are lot of other people on the site (users) that could have opinions about this and I'm interested in that. I can't see anything wrong to discuss this in this thread. I guess nobody will answer it now.
Thanks for your answer though.

Easy... make the challenge with ONE ribon minimum... you will get a little more people.. but keep it to the best anyway.... it is no luck for me.. i dont have won any yet ! will have to try harder ! :-)

Maybe not, neither you or me can say, but wouldn't that be great for us all? For those that don't have the two ribbons yet, and for those that are pretty new to this site and haven't been collecting ribbons over the years like many others, it will be something to aim at, people will maybe try harder to get to the two ribbons mark to be able to take part in those master's challenges. I think this will make the average votes getting higher because there's more to aim at.
Also I think this will be great for the "best" photographers that have won a lot of ribbons and that winning a ribbon in the weekly challenges isn't as much of a thing for them that it was before and then it would add more interests for them in the site.
And finally for the site, it will be great to have occasionally a more of an eye-candy challenges to vote for and make the site more interesting than it is.
Maybe you don't think it will happen, but would you say it's bad if it would happen?

Aha! Wrong guess. One of the things which does tend to slow up site changes is that good suggestions can get lost with the rapid proliferation of similar threads ... just want to encourage people to search for an existing thread which is (at least) close to their intended topic before starting a new one.
A couple of days ago, we had two or three nearly identical threads started asking the same basic questions ... it becomes somewhat tiresome to constantly search the forums on behalf of those who could try it themselves first, and then ask for help if they can't find what they want.
But we do appreciate your suggestions! |
