This is from the first photoshoot with a model. Ashton's OMP # is 106054. It was a good session and I found myself taking many less photos but I like the quality of what I got better. I felt like I didn't shoot 50 to get 1 good photo ('course we still shot about 300 in 2-3 hours).

Thanks for your comments/critiques.

I intended to capture something more artistic than I normally shoot with this last one.

Thanks again,

Kev

Hi Kevin,

I don't think that I will be able to provide as detailed and sophisticated critiques for your shots as you routinely do for others, but I wanted to let you know how much I always enjoy looking at your photoshoots, and these are no exception.

#1 is my favorite of this group. The tones are amazing and his eyes are awesome. I like the way the b&w makes the highlights in his hair look, too. The composition is excellent. I like the asymetrical stance of his shoulders and the negative space to the left of his face, where he is looking out of the frame.

They are all great shots. Thanks for posting them.

^bump^

Looking for comments or critiques from the Labor Day crowd. I know you folks are celebrating Labor Day in the US by hanging out on DPC (that's the traditional way we celebrate this holiday in the US).

This shoot was different for me 'cause I don't shoot with male models as much (just aren't as many around here) and I tried a shot or two that were more artistic or expressive than my normal fare. Anyone like 'em? Don't like 'em? Can you tell me what does or doesn't work for you?

Thanks,

Kev

Hi Kevin!

I like the lighting in the last arty one, but it all seems a bit too "posed" and cheesey in my opinion. I know I know, I have a similar ribbon winner, but it appears a lot of DPC likes cheese, hehe :) Also, I think the lighting on the hands and face should be equal, rather than having the hands so much brighter.

I think this one //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=103110 has too much open space on the right. There's nothing there to fill that side of the frame, so I think a close crop on his face would look better here.

In this one: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=103114 , I like it, but the small pieces of grass in the foreground seem a bit out of place. If there were more of them it would be good, but they small few just look a bit like an oversight. Overall that photo is my fave of the bunch though.

Just a few critical opinions because I expect they would be of more use than "wow, great stuff", but as usual, great stuff :)

Hey Kev -

#1 - I like the B&W and pose, however, I would have liked him centered just a bit more. Crop needs to come over to the right just a tad to even it out.

#2 - The focus seems to be just a little shallow, as his foot is soft. I think I agree with Ben that there is too much space to the right.

#3 - Two things on this one. First, the crop below the knee doesn't look right to me. Try bringing the crop up above the waist. Also I think his left hand in his pocket would have made him look a bit more relaxed.

#4 - I think having him take off the flip-flops would have looked nice. Also, have him straighten out his left hand, instead of having it tightened up in a fist.

#8 (artistic one) - I agree with Ben here, it does look a bit cheesy and unnatural. The lighting is perfect. I think a different pose may have been better, but I'm struggling to think of which pose would have looked better. Maybe that means you used the right one. :-) This is the best overall out of the lot. I love the B&W tone.

Overall, great work as usual. I'm getting ready to try and shoot with a male model as well. It's quite a change, as almost of the posing is different and they normally don't like sitting around in flowers. :-)

I'll post these on the photos as well.
