This thread is intended to serve to connect people who would like to see tutorials written on certain topics with those who have the knowledge to write them. As a reminder, anyone who submits a Tutorial or How Did They Do That article will receive a $2 DPC Prints gift certificate if it is approved and used on DPChallenge.
If you have a topic on which you would like to see a tutorial, please post it to this thread. Likewise, if you see a topic on which you would like to write, please post here to "claim" it. When claiming a topic, please include a due date by which you expect to have the tutorial submitted (ideally 2 weeks but no more than a month).
You need not "claim" a topic to write a tutorial on that topic, but doing so ensures 2 people aren't writing the same tutorial at the same time.
I will endeavor to keep an updated list in this post. If anyone posts a suggestion, claim or tutorial, and I do not update this list within 3 days to reflect that, please remind me via PM.
-Terry

Cool idea, CJ.
We seem to see a lot of threads asking what equipment to use for a certain type of photography (nature, macro, etc)..
How about Equipment for X Photography tutorial(s)?

Well, I'm working on a tutorial on modeling and portrait photography and I am sharing it with 3 other DPCers to get feedback on content, design and readability. Unfortunately its turned from a one or two page document into a slightly more detailed work. I include photos, examples and sidebars. I started it in response to one of Eddy's comments. I originally asked the 3 reviewers (who don't know each other) to not share this information with others as I don't know when I'll be "finished" with it and didn't want to put additional pressure on the project but I have gotten other requests for the same thing so I guess I'll just let the cat outta the bag. Hopefully it will be helpful for people who are interested in this type of photography. I plan on posting it in both HTML and PDF format.

With the amount of careful thought and emphasis you put into a forum post, I don't have a hard time believing a tutorial from you has expended to many pages :-)
I'll bet it rocks already, even in a draft version.

I would like to see a tutorial on advanced metering that would include bracketing. The explanation in my camera manual just doesn̢۪t help. I would bet there are a lot of SLR users that feel the same.
Also a lesson on lens to lens macro shots would be very cool.

Pretty positive this will be helpful... I'm looking forward to this tutorial myself and the other suggested topic.

Yes - excellent idea! To add to that, I would like to see some stuff included on using a handheld meter both for studio work and landscape/outdoor shots.
PLUS (don't ask for much, do I) a tutorial on still-life photography. Not the 'light tent jewelry' stuff but the really creative still life work that I've seen some photogs contribute to this site. |

I apologize if this has already been mentioned on another thread but when is that expected to happen? Thanks! |

Talking about tutorials there are a lot of really good ones on Luminous landscape. For example Which lens to use for landscapes.

I'm adding the first two to the list. I've chosen to omit the third as Alan Freed's tutorial on sports photography already touches on equipment considerations.
I've also taken the liberty of expanding the first two suggestions to Macro Photography in general. A good tutorial on this subject should include a discussion of the requisite equipment. If you object to this change, please let me know and I will make adjustments.

Any guesses on when you might finish this? I'm not going to hold you to this guess.

They keep finding more things that need to be done. I just asked Drew and he is projecting sometime this month. This is a projection, not a guarantee.

I think that this is one of the greatest benifets of this site is the people that take photos and edit photos are the ones writing the tutorials. I wouldn't mind seeing more tutorials on any subjects, but especially editing. I would like to see a tuturial on selecting a subject with the freehand tool. I use paint shop pro and when I do selections it is easier for me to do the smart edge tool, but this sometimes includes things that I don't want in my picture as well. I would like to use the freehand tool, but it requires me to outline in click. Any help. Thanks |

I'd love to see a tutorial along the lines of "Making the transition to D-SLR." Potential topics to be covered by the tutorial could include: learning about lenses and other available equipment, differences to expect in moving from compact to D-SLR, a brief survey of features available around the market that you should consider in choosing your D-SLR, and anything else I just don't know about having never shot an D-SLR. |

i've been mulling this over ofr about a year, if not longer, but would anyone be interested in reading a lighting tutorial from me? It would be pitched at the beginner level, so would rather more be an explanation than anything along the tips and tricks line, but I can at least lay claim to a few years working with light professionally.

Drew, I'd be interested in taking this topic on. Having shot film point and shoots then film SLR's then D-point and shoots and finally having gone to D-SLR's I could probably come up with something interesting and informative.

I guess I will try to put together an introduction to the use of Curves. It will probably take me the longer amount of time though ...
I'd like to make it somewhat modular if it starts getting too long:
-Intro & basic contrast adjustments
-Color-shifting & special effects |

Yes. Should I mark it down as suggested and claimed? If so, what should I list as a projected date?

I would like to see a tutorial on "Basic & Advanced Editing Secrets". Or, in other words, a detailed explanation of what you can pull of in contests. I personally find the rules a bit vague.

This effects me and with the explosion of the digital photography market at the moment I'm sure it would benefit a lot of others.
How about a series of weekly exercises designed around "Getting to know your camera"
Things like DOF, exposure settings, auto Vs manual etc, I have done a few exercises and they have really helped me as I learn from doing not reading!
There are many common area's in cameras that this topic could explore.
