Hi all –
I wrote a children̢۪s book for my niece about 10 yrs ago and am now in the process of trying to get it published.
2 things held up this project, the first was finding an illustrator who had the same vision as I did. The second was coming up with the $ for it, but with sites like kickstarter out there now, it̢۪s within reach.

I was wondering if anyone on here had experience with kickstarter.
As I̢۪m totally new to kickstarter, I was wondering if anyone here had experience with it and could send some advice my way.

Thanks,
Denise

First of all, there are lots of crowdfunding sites out there, Kickstarter is just one. Have you looked at any others?

Second, you need to offer some rewards based on level of sponsorship...something like $X is a discount on the final book, $XX is an autographed copy of the first printing and $XXX is a classroom visit by you to read the book. Those are just a few things that spring to mind in the moment. You need to spend some time thinking about what you can offer.

Third, you need to find a way to make your pitch stand out from all of the other pitches...you really need to make people feel some of the same kind of passion you have for your book. Enough that they're willing to put money toward making it a reality.

You can self-publish through print on demand sites (like lulu.com) and make the book available on amazon.com. The advantage of print-on-demand is that there is no minimum order, no need to warehouse the books, etc. The down side is that books (unless quite short) can be very expensive.

I don't have any experience on kick starter, but would love to hear more about the book and perhaps once it is available, see the kick starter page. As a person with kids on their list to buy presents for I am always on the look out for something unique and different.

Would you mind perhaps sharing a bit more about the book?
