deer

OK I am a hunter. I am highly against animal cruelty. This was an uncalled for act.

I am sure this will be moved to rant but really.......the police had no business in this situation

I saw that too and it made me sick.

Like I said...I am a hunter. It actually helps to keep population under control. But to "raid" a place to kill a baby deer.....Not so much..

by the way I am a responsible hunter

I completely agree

Un fucking believable! I guess you have to be thankful they didn\'t call in a SWAT team.

Also amusing that the sheriff confiscated someones phone and deleted their pictures. Pretty sure that was against the law.

I only disagree insofar as it\'s \"amusing.\"

For real? Can they (legally) delete photos from your phone (or camera) without consent?

BTW - I hope they know how to use recovery software to get those photos back. :-)

Also ... how much did this raid cost the taxpayers of Wisconsin?
(quoted from the linked article)
According to a state affidavit, the DNR had been conducting aerial and ground surveillance in advance of the raid searching for an âillegally-held live captive Whitetail deer.â

âWe didnât know they were doing surveillance,â she said. âFive days before the raid, a DNR agent was hiding in the woods by our shelter watching the deer walk in and out of the barn.â

I believe the illegal deletion of the photos is covered by the 4th amendment.

Why won\'t this post correctly? The text after \"Also ... how much did this raid cost the taxpayers of Wisconsin?\" won\'t show on the forum post. When I select \'Preview\' it is just blank. I\'ve tried it without the italics emphasis, I\'ve tried it taking out all quotes from the actual text coming from the linked web page, etc...

What the heck?!

Here\'s a thumbnail of the screen capture (click on view full size to see the text more clearly).

Don\\\'t know what\\\'s going on there Barry... I tried with the same text and it shows up fine for me...

ETA, OK now this is absolutely strange. The backslaches in the above text magically appeared when I posted... If I edit and delete them, they reappear when posted!
ETA: they do not appear in the preview!

Test post: Don\'t use apostrophes, they won\'t behave, ain\'t that weird?

OK, it is not the particular browser or computer. What the heck?

ETA: It looks like any single or double quote characters, or backslashes, get an additional backslash character added before them. I\'ve tested this on two computers and with Chrome and IE. I reported it to L.

I don\\\'t think that happens with St. Job\\\'s products.

In the meantime. You know, in your heart, that they had to kill that deer in order to save it. :-(

Sadly, it does. Steve has been demoted to mortal.... :-(

There are reasons for everything. The law itself is most likely based on good reasoning.

But seriously.. aerial photos? Stalking? Raid?!

They are an animal shelter, for heaven\'s sake, it\'s not unreasonable that they might be rehabilitating an animal. Why not just go up to them and explain the law? What the heck were they thinking?!

And actually, I\'m really surprised that another state\'s animal refuge would even take the deer. Chronic wasting disease is a big problem in the north (or used to be, and I doubt that\'s changed). I\'m surprised they\'d take the chance.

The whole thing has to be the stupidest, most asinine thing I\'ve heard in awhile. If it was one person working alone, I\'d understand it a little more. I don\'t quite understand how a group of people could participate without questioning. It makes you wonder what types of things they\'ve dealt with in the past that this is how they felt they had to approach this one.

What\'s even stranger is it looks OK in the preview post window if you check it there. At least new posts do; yours above still shows the errors as a quote.

I\'m with you. The military style of the raid is quite bothersome. Almost sounds like the Sheriff found a way to let the boys have some fun - all on legal pretext, of course.
Plus, really? It takes an entire group of officers three hours to find a deer that is in a barn. No wonder they deleted the pictures. That group may make the Keystone Cops look organized and efficient!

Well, looks like the scourge of the backslash may be over. Let's test that ;-)

ETA: Yep, cured! Langdon sez it was a side effect of server upgrades.

So back to the challenge topic... as Wendy posted, yes, CWD is a threat, and I'm sure that's a part of the reason that they are strict on keeping deer. That's all great and wonderful, but like most here, I'm apalled at the tactics, if the report is an accurate depiction of events. It will be interesting to see if this "goes viral" and if so, if it results in positive change.

LOL, appareently it already has. WDNR has taken down their Facebook page in response to what I assume was a firestorm of criticism.

worst case scenario...they should have taken the deer and released it back into the wild. Then give the refuge a fine or something. It was definitely taken way overboard

dtremain said it best: "It takes an entire group of officers three hours to find a deer that is in a barn. No wonder they deleted the pictures."

15 officers from the Wisconsin Department of Resources + 4 deputy sheriffs on one side.
throwing in some helicopters and stalking maneuvers to make sure we have an even 'playing field.'

On the other side? One fawn, named Giggles, in a barn - flanked by a bunch of wildlife refuge caretakers armed with a camera.

One wonders if the National Security Agency was in reserve.

How do you think they found the deer in the first place? Deer is one of the code words that the NSA ferrets (no NSA I do not have a ferret, no raid needed), out to find evil doers. (Evil Doers use the code DEER for Do Evil, Everyone Ready?). They thought they were harboring a terrorist in that barn. So after all that, well they just had to kill something....

ROFL. I think you nailed it.
