Welcome to the DPC family, Amber. What I did when I first started eons ago, was to start looking at all the pictures in the challenges after the challenges were over, and read the comments, and read the photographers' descriptions to see how they got their shot. It will help you get a sense of what works and what doesn't. Then, start shooting for one of the themes, and dive right in. You will learn so much! I've been a member forever, and I still learn so much by looking at other people's work and trying to perfect my own skill.

Hi Amber, and welcome..
As for where to start? That's a biggie! ;)
I'd say start with understanding exposure - and how to use a histogram.
After that, the next line of education I'd suggest pursuing immediately is the use of flash/strobe lighting.
Of course, that's just what I would do, knowing what I wish I had known years ago.
