Hey. The word on the street is that alternative juries are forming for Fine Arts: Exhibit III. Yes this is perfectly legal as long as you abide by DPC voting rules. Why form an alt jury? To have the fun of thinking about and discussing the merit and impact of art photos. It does not take any glory away from the Official Jury - in fact - having other juries around means that the members of the Official Jury get their photos evaluated by a jury too! You might think of it as a Posthumous Award by committee.
So join in. Grab a bunch of your closest dpc buddies, then huddle, juggle & judge.

The "official" jury officially loves the "alt juries". Or at least, this member of it does :-)

Personally, I'd like to have the option on our Preferences page to designate our own "jury" of 5-10 members, whose cumulative* score would be posted next to the participants/non-participants breakdown.

*individual jurors' votes would still be secret, and no score would be displayed unless a "quorum" (4?) of jurors voted.

The Jury is the same as last time around minus two individuals: ubique, who no longer lives here, and LevT, who's too busy with other activities to get involved this time around. The jurying process will be essentially the same. We have a very diverse set of viewpoints represented, and we will come to a gentle consensus that will leave none of us entirely thrilled but will be nevertheless acceptable to all.

That's the plan anyway. Nice digital bling will be awarded. The regular voting by the regular voters will still award the regular ribbons. The jury part is outside of that.

Feel free to ask me more questions, I seem to be nominated as Speaker-to-the-Town.

I much preferred posthumous way ;---)

I highly recommend forming other juries. Being qualified is not an issue, as you can tell if you look closely at the presiding jurors. It's a unique experience, not only forcing you to look closely at images, and how you feel about those images, but also to express those feelings to others, and compare them with the impressions of others. It's a great way to learn.

I hope there are many groups forming... Talking about art with others who can appreciate it is (almost) as good as doing it yourself!

huddle, juggle, and judge.

I want everyone to know that the jury will not post its results immediately. The tradition is to let the normal ribbon winners bask in glory for a day or so.

But the choices have been made, while anonymity is still in effect.
