Does anyone know if this lens has been discontinued? |

I haven't seen any news about it beeing discontinued. It's one of the more affordable Canon L lenses. Here in holland I see plenty of supply of the lens. |

This is true. It's still listed on Canon's lens chart (pdf) and shows up via Search > Where to buy.

I'd be really surprised if Canon discontinued that lens. It's one of their best sellers and one of their best wide angle zooms.
It is still available at B &H for $689.95
Don't believe that. EF-S lenses are only for the Rebel and the 20D, EF-S don't work on the other SLR's.

It's the only lens I really want to buy - heard so many great things about it... :-( |

I actually placed an order for this lens last night... I got it from Beach Camera for $669 + $19 shipping. It's going out today via FedEx.
This is the first I read about it being discontinued. ...No matter. I'm still looking forward to receiving it early next week.

Discontinued? it was introduced this spring, wasn't it?
I'd say try the Tamrom 17-40 2.8-4.0Di it's actualy better than the Canon.

Perhaps Canon will drop the price of the 16-35 F2.8 L to the 17-40's level? :)

at almost double the price...that would be one steep drop...then they'd have to drop the 17-40 to the price of the kit lens!

...Then I'd have to ask for a refund on my recent 17-40 order, and buy it again at the kit price... What a pain! (but I'd do it in a heartbeat! Bring it on!!)
