I have not used the Tamron and I have an old version of Canon. The Tamron has a lot of great reviews, but this guy thinks the optics are good but the lens has issues.

From his review:
This Tamron 17-50mm has swell optics, but a couple of fatal usability problems with its VC and AF systems.
Is getting a plastic lens with these problems worth saving money over buying the genuine quality product from Nikon or Canon?
If you want one of these, and aren't bothered by the ergonomic flaws I've mentioned, this Tamron's optics are very good; get one. |

Here's a thorough review from the guys at DPReview. They like it very much. Check it out for yourself.
Originally posted by DPReview: Overall, we're extremely impressed with the Tamron 24-70mm F/2.8 VC. It demonstrates that it's entirely possible to add an effective image stabilization system to a lens of this type without a significant drop in quality elsewhere. The optics are excellent, the autofocus fast, silent and accurate, and the build quality very good indeed.
Overall the Tamron comes so close to the much more expensive non-stabilized Canon and Nikon lenses, both optically and operationally, that it's difficult to see why most enthusiast photographers might choose to buy them instead. That's not to say that there aren't any differences - the Tamron's not quite so quick at focusing, and chances are it's not as well weathersealed - but quite simply it offers much better value for your money. |

I was looking to buy 24-70 f2.8 II from Canon and this one came across and looking good, great reviews and cost wise 50% less then Canon so wanted to get some input from here!
Meaning if I buy this lens won't be disappointed!
On other end I would remove 24-105 f4.0 from my fleet of the lenses! |
