Honor the work of Vincent van Gogh, Dutch post impressionist painter.. His work was notable for its rough beauty and bold color. Let's see if we can come close with photography. Advanced editing.

It's a deal. You can cut some hay and stack it instead.

So cut off your nose instead!!

Challenge sounds fun. Would it be post-impressionism in total or just Van Gogh?

Oh, this sounds like fun! I'm liking the Van Gogh aspect!

If we did Van Gogh now, that would leave the field open for Seurat, Rembrandt, Matisse, Monet and more, later on.

Cute pun, VAwendy.
but at 37, when he died, he did leave a legacy. According to Wikipedia:
"In his final letter to Theo, Vincent admitted that as he did not have any children, he viewed his paintings as his progeny. Reflecting on this, the historian Simon Schama concluded that he "did have a child of course, Expressionism"
And I'm reaching here, but I somehow remember that Theo's kids and grandkids made a bundle off some of Uncle Vincent's paintings.

Actually -- I think it would be fun, but difficult. I'd rather do a Monet challenge. But I'd be up for trying a Van Gogh (since I get to keep my ear!)

Yes great suggestion!

wat to go, vawendy!...and if you do happen to sneeze, do it while pressing the 'go button' on your camera. Instant impressionism.

But that's the problem -- I could probably do impressionism... this is POST-impressionism. That's scarier... :)

I had already planned a tribute to Van Gogh, so I really hope to see this suggestion becoming a real challenge :)

Great idea...I did one a few years ago as a tribute to Vincent's "The Potato Eaters" Myself on the left, my ex on my left, the parents of a good friend of mine and the adopted daughter of my good friend. Set this up in the old milking shed of the parent's dairy farm. Camera on timer and had to run to sit down at the table and take my position after I pressed the shutter. At first I only had candles for light but the image was much too dark and so I had to quickly make a plan and made use of a builders lamp on the side to provide more light but unfortunately afterwards I noticed that the light-fall was now not consistent with how it should have been if it was really only the oil lamp on the ceiling giving of light. Too bright also so I tried as best I could in post processing to correct that a bit. To some extent it worked but I am not really happy and had wanted a much better and more natural result.
Anyway here it is: //c.img-dpreview.com/0159427-01.jpg

And of course the original painting by van Gogh to compare it too: //upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/af/Vincent_Van_Gogh_-_The_Potato_Eaters.png

Ps. The chair I found in a second hand shop and is almost an exact copy of the chairs in the original painting. The lamp is quite a close copy of the one in the painting and I found it in a 2nd hand shop also. I entered it in a challenge here on DPC in 2009. The challenge entry I found a bit too bright and later I darkened it a bit more in post processing as you saw in the version I posted at the start of my post in this thread.
