I've said it a thousand times but 'As a professional portraitist' I don't think there is anything you can do to make this better! :)

Very effective use of desaturation. Must pinch cheeks :P

Rooster, she is such a cute little girl - she always has a lovely expression on her face when you post a picture. I adore her cute chubby cheeks!

What an expression. Great capture. I love the black and white background. I have not the experience nor the expertise to make suggestions for improvement. All I know is I like it.

You've got a great subject there, wonderful expression. For a serious print I'd bring back some color in the background. The way it is now the viewer's impression is going to contain a certain amount of "wow, that's an unusual technique". The complete desat to b&w competes with the subject instead of emphasizing it. My suggestion would be to bump up the saturation and brightness in the girl and her dress a little, not a lot; and then desat the background some but not all the way. Let the viewer's attention go to the girl because she is colorful and the background is dull, but not so drab that the technique struggles to elbow the girl aside as the main focus of the photo. The level of bluriness in the background is good. Unfortunately you have a fairly wide range of brightness on her face, would be nice to bring up the skintones there some but without blowing out the left side and the area under her right eye. Just kinda guessing here because I don't know the conditions under which you shot this one, but maybe some fill flash would have helped that. But no matter how you process it, you have a great capture there; let the girl, and her expression, carry the shot. Just my 2 cents.

Beautiful photograph! I tend to agree with coolhar on the desat...if you take this advice I would love to see a repost. Very nice!

I also love the VW in the background...it really assists in creating a setting for this picture...beautiful work!

Edit: Wait a minute...that is a bug in the background isn't it? I didn't just want to assume...

Rooster, my 2 1/2 yo son thinks she is cute and wants to know her name. :-)

Maybe brighten her up a bit more and darken the background. My eyes are wanting to focus on the bright background.

She is a little doll.

I agree, I don't think a professional could have created a better image. She is a beautiful girl and this photo of her is amazing. This is a perfect example of how well selective desaturation can work. Simply amazing! :o)

I have to admit that I like the other one better becasue the VW bug is not as distracting. Taking picture of her would be like cheating because of cuteness. Excellent shooting.

Great shot! I love the original (b&w background) more than the redo.

Another idea to try (aren't there millions?) might be to try blurring and darkening the background just a tad.

I like that one too. The car is a distraction, but not that bad. If it were my daughter or neice I would put it on my wall. She is the cutest and that expression can melt any anyones heart. That is why God made girls. hehehee...

There's a tiny bit too much green in the coloring I think. Try to remove just a small amount using Levels. Then I think I'd increase the overall brightness a little bit, but again, not too much. Great shot!

That's what I envisioned Rooster. You did a great job. IMHO it is improved a lot.
