I've been reading plenty of comments on the scoring of the framing challenge today. I can see that certain people are frustrated that some voters score 3's or 4's if the picture is off topic(even if it's a great picture). The thing is, everyone does their voting their own way. I once read a comment somewhere where the voter develops a system that gives 2 points to composition, 2 points for topic relevance, 2 points to cleverness etc. that add up to 10 points. Then there are those who give a start value, and then add and deduct accordingly. And I'm sure there are those who simply look at the picture, and then give it a score without much thought.
The point is, everyone gets just 1 vote. And if they are tough, or lenient, they are probably doing the same across the board. It's not just you. There's a reason you have to sign in to vote, and a reason names aren't attached to the pictures.

I suck, woo.
Theres nothing wrong with voting on a picture using your opinion of how much you like/dislike it. Why does everything have to be so complicated? Like = high score. Don't like - low score. I have no need for fancy "oo its in focus, +1" jargon.

I get the feeling we're never going to stop topics like these from popping up..... *sigh*.... But Konador, aren't the voters supposed to " keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base their rating accordingly" like the voting rules tell you to?

I personally start off by putting pictures in two categories, "does it meet the challenge or it doesn't meet the challenge". Then I go back and adjust the scores from there, usually on a different day. Then I go back for a third time to the pictures I thought did not meet the challenge and give the another look to make sure I did not interrupt them wrong. Finally I bump up or down the pictures on quality. I know going through the pictures up to four times is a lot but I want to vote as accurately as possible (if there is such a thing).

| I took Art History classes and could, if I wanted to, spend a lot of time analyzing the formal elements, the subject matter, and additional aspects of a picture (title, cleaver use of camera features and surroundings). I chose not to because it would be too time-consuming, and I have other things to do. It usually takes me a second or two to decide whether I like a picture or not, and how much so. I do not care about "voting accuracy" because it is impossible to quantify. The good news is that, overall, I find the contestants to be very creative, and produce high quality work. For me that matters more than votes. |

Isn't "voting accuracy" just being able to click the number that corresponds with the vote you want to give it? Seems more of an issue of eye-hand coordination rather than something that is time consuming. |
