more and more photo apps keep coming out for the iPhone and iPad. some now allow you to scroll through and preview in real time many variations on a single scene BEFORE even pressing the "shutter" button and getting a capture.

that being the case, is this legal under most, if not all, of the editing rule sets given that the processing/effects/textures are all being set before capture and are applied immediately as the image is saved? in other words, are these considered "in camera" adjustments, even though they are more advanced than most real camera pre-capture settings?

To my understanding and from previous enquiries (mine...) it is not legal. The exif of the image is modified hence is not legal.

not to mention the textures are are real problem as the software is combining multiple images, of not the same scene and most importantly not created by you.

Thanks. I figured this had been "litigated" before

The general rule of thumb is that only the native camera app on a phone creates valid originals, so any other app probably isn't going to be permissable. However, if you'd like a ruling on a specific app, send us a ticket and we'll look into it.
