I'm starting to slowly loose interest in the challenges here. The last challenge I entered was animals in motion but since then there has been nothing I feel I could enter. I'm sure I'm not the only one as I see that the amount of entries in most of the recent challenges has dropped quite dramatically. I don't know why there have been so many weird and obscure and difficult to realize challenge themes lately. Challenges for landscapes of some sort or another or flowers or more conventional and easily accessible themes or subjects have been few and far between lately. It looks like people are trying to compete with each other for suggesting the most difficult and complicated type of themes possible lately. It sometimes feels to me like DPC is becoming more of a photo puzzle site then a photo challenge site. I don't know...maybe I'm wrong but this is just my perception and maybe I'm more limited as a photographer then I thought I was.

Almost my thoughts. Too many challenge topics lately are very narrow ("Fork in the road", "Real Estate", "Internet Meme") and/or related to only a portion of members (never heard of "Game of thrones" before..., "Memorial Day" only US-related, "Cinco de Mayo" ), or basically a Free Study ("Photo becomes a painting", "ABC.."). Doesn't inspire me.

I have something on the seven but just by coincidence. Otherwise I concure with the above :-(

I keep saying to myself I am not going to enter more challenges but then I do and have been very disappointed in scores and topics lately.

DPC is just a guide, a bit of fun, please don't tell me you spent all that money on camera gear just for DPC... Please.

Go out, shoot, enjoy, life is too short.

Certainly tilted is something universal. And ABC ... we all should be able to try that one too!
I do admit that for the past couple of weeks we have been presented with some clinkers:)

once you find your style and it isn't favored or received well on DPC, it's hard to stay inspired.

I haven't been excited with the topics, either. But tilted really is an open topic and a good photographic technique to play with. and abc xyz is a free study that you just need to be creative to come up with a title. I've already picked my subject, and I'm trying to find the letters to fit. :)

Rather than complain about the topics other users have suggested, why not use that energy to post some exciting topics yourself?

If you don't want to do that, you can set up a side-challenge with whatever topic* and rules* you want.

they're fine i think - i enter when i feel like shooting something for DPC and think it might be out of my comfort zone. Have produced interesting bits of work thanks to that i think.

I kinda see it as a hat with random topics, I pick one and move on. Though I do copout and go free study once in a while

Why is it I think the *disclaimer was almost entirely for Slippy's benefit? ;)

Pffft. Well, I'm not really one to talk with my lack of challenge entries of late, but if I had a buck for every time Fred announced he was taking his ball and going home, well, I'd have a really nice lunch!

ROFL - at least he does it in a rather pleasant way these days. No way he's putting down the DPC-crackpipe though.

I think you may be confused, Pam... it's unlikely that Nobody had to say it...

I'm honored to still be remembered. I have been a dedicated lurker for most of the last year. My membership expires in a 4 days, and I don't know if I will be re-uping for the 9th year.

I used to have 2 entries going each week, but the inspiration is really not there anymore. I will say that for at least the last 7 years, complaints about DPC dying and the quality of challenge choices has been ongoing. Ongoing enough that it's really not the problem many want to make it to be. I think people go through phases, and depending on their interests, DPC is either their obsession or loses its importance.

You can please some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

And that's Nobody's thought for the day.

+1 Yeah, as a general rule if you're not one of the popular kids, you basically don't stand a chance.

So that leaves two options open: Either drink the purple Kool-Aid and shoot DPC-friendly Popular-Kidz style, and sacrifice your vision for the ribbons.

Or, continue to be a loner and stick to your principles and style, and continue to be underappreciated and robbed of ribbons, usually by a Popular Kid. And come up smiling when you do ribbon and beat the Popular Kidz at their own game, but on your terms. Y'know, to thine own self be true, blah blah blah.

Sooo...though it truly SUCKS to lose a ribbon to a PK, think I'll stick to NOT drinkin the purple Kool-Aid, thanks very much.

FWIW, I have seen quite a few images ribbon recently that I thought were anything but the FotM (Flavor of the Month). So it is still possible. It's even possible to maintain a relatively high average when you only shoot for yourself. But yes, if your goal is to always be shooting for a ribbon, you have a point!

I have put up on this site quite a few challenge suggestions some which have been surprisingly accepted but I'm still waiting for another 'fine arts' challenge! So if you could kindly pass that onto Langdon I would be extremely happy.
Oh and tell him I said PLEASE!
