I don't really get something. I thought people were supposed to vote based on the merit of a photo meeting a challenge. Yet, I get comments questioning the subject of my photo. I for one vote on if a challenge was met, not how it was met.

Yeah, one nice thing about subjective voting system like this is that you really start learning how other people see your images, on average, of course ;D.

My view is usually very different how other people see it. But then again, photoshooting is a form of communication and has it's language of it's own.

This is one of the reasons I joined DPC a while ago. One comment of my challenge image was "try framing your subject next time." (hehe). Valuable comment since I had a kind of conceptual frame in my image and majority seems to be missing it.

Lesson learned this time: keep it simple so there are not so many possibilities for interpretation. Analogous to written language would be "Behold! I see!". The number of interpretations to that is ... huge. ;D

Hehe, once again missing the actual subject ...

I am a maniac results checker.
I had 5.02 with 144 votes and 7 comments
and got down to 4.99 with 145. Still 7 comments
This simply means someone gave me a 1.
I got 1s before and didn't mind but this one I do.
I have a clear frame on my pic and I think it is not that bad. It is unique among others (noone tried similiar idea). Still there are those strange people who give 1 with NO comments to it.
I know my pic is not a winner. Not even top 100 probably (like my precious entries). But still I would never give a 1 to a descent quality picture with clear adherence to the topic (whether I like the pic or not).
Whoever does this - I am very disappointed with that and can only understand it as strugling to make his/her pic go a few places higher.
