The Lr 5 Beta would not upgrade current catalogs, so your Lr 3 catalogs are still as they should be You can uninstall the Lr 5 Beta, and leave Lr 3 alone. If you purchased the full version of Lr 5, then your Lr 3 license is still yours to do with as you choose. If you purchased an upgrade, then your Lr 5 version is dependent on the Lr 3 license. If you did purchase a full version of Lr 5 and you want a friend to be able to use your Lr 3 copy, just let him/her install it using the SN that came with it. It will still be licensed to you, but no matter.

no. simply run the LR5 install. when you open a catalog it will automatically upgrade the catalog to the newest version of the database.

no. if you purchase an upgrade, it will require the previous version's serial number. once the new version is registered, the old version will not be usable. if you were able to get the old version installed somewhere, that would be a license violation, and you wouldn't want that, would you ;-)

ok...I've run into another problem...sigh (rolling my eyes)

My laptop is running on Vista...so I can't run my 2nd program on that...it's to old...???

Ah, yep. I'd have to look, but I think that Lr 5 will only run on 64-bit Win7 or later. It may well be time to give Vista the heave-ho.

it's on my laptop and NOT the main computer thank goodness...I really should replace the laptop but it works great for e-mails and until it actually "dies" it will have to stay...

kind of weird although because I've been using the LR5 Beta on the laptop...it's been working just fine...sigh I'll just have to use my LR3 when I travel I guess. (stab me in the eye!!!)

i guess there are more than a few people wanting this issue resolved...

Don't you love the your business is important crap? Doesn't that make you feel warm and fuzzy? No??

It's a crappy way to work but Adobe and the retailers have done the pump & dump for most of the earlier LR versions so what's new. Wait until we start getting features that only work with a CC rent (see some yahoo in adobe's blog recently).

Yeah, tell me about it. I did end up going through the chat system which was far easier to work with. The nice thing about the chat is you have a good record of what was said. I used that once to my advantage with another company.

I was on chat hold for about 10 minutes and had everything set in about another 10. Now, I'm just waiting for customer support to process the final request. Timing doesn't matter so much since the ticket has a definite date stamp to it.

Perhaps you can get the upgrade from Amazon

+1... Just used the online chat to get a free upgrade from 4 to 5, with about the same time limits.

So, update.

Adobe honored the free upgrade to LR5 because amazon.com is an authorized distributor (and has downloads). Essentially, I got LR5 for $95.

I wasn't sure what was going to happen and thought the timing for Adobe's $99 offer with respect to the beta version was suspect, so I waited until the last minute. It seemed to have paid off. The only thing was, as a consumer, you need to prod Adobe for the free upgrade.
