LR4 special offer $99 (two days before LR5 release)

LR5 released today at $149

LR5 upgrade (from 4) at $79

Do the math....

I hate Adobe's pricing changes as much as the next person, but this isn't as bad as it looks.

Adobe themselves have been telling people that LR5 is on the way for a while now. Almost everyone in the market for LR will probably know to hold off for a bit. Doesn't Adobe also upgrade you for free if you bought within 30 days of the release?

Hoping so....I'm one of the hosed customers. :)

Blame the accountants.

This has been standard practice for years in retail - when a new product is about to drop you dramatically lower the price of the soon to be obsolete product to encourage a final sales push.

The obvious problem here is that typewriters didn't have upgrade plans.

Yup....at least you got 1:29. Mine is 1:57...using the call back feature later...no time for this right now.

Well hell. I think I need one of those kits, I've got a beautiful old Royal that would be perfect for this.

Right on -- let me know how it works. I have a portable manual my dad had in college ...

LR5 is beaning released already?

i checked out the beta and was unimpressed. of course i do portraits and LR is severely lacking in the retouching department for portraits, unless the model and makeup are flawless or the subject is a male :)

I'm certainly no fan at all of Adobe's recent antics... but I would not post an angry diatribe prior to learning if they would provide a reduced-cost upgrade for recent purchasers of Lr 4.X. A free upgrade I would not expect if Lr 4 was purchased at the reduced cost. A reduced-cost upgrade to, say, $50 to make the original purchase free would be fair, IMO.

Yes, I saw those reduced price offers ($49) for LR4 in the last week or so, and I wondered indeed if I should buy one to reduce the cost of my upgrade...which I figured would be $79 - $99 otherwise.

So they aren't giving free upgrades to those who purchased in the last 90 days or so? I thought they usually did that?

Well, I talked with the sales person who said that there is eligibility for upgrade, he didn't specify how much, but certainly not the $80 they are asking. He then put me through to customer service in line with hundreds of other angry people with times up to 1.5 hours. I won't wait. I bought from Amazon and they said to try to deal with Adobe and if nothing they would take over. I'll be sending another email tonight to amazon to take care of this.

Looks to me from that link like they have the complementary upgrade policy if you bought a full version after LR5 was announced. So I'm not sure why everyone's upset. Says nothing about not upgrading "cut-price deals"!

Right, that's where it will be interesting. I paid $95, so I should be able to get it for $54. Or at least, get refunded from Amazon and then go get the full version.

Update:

Used the chat system and explained. I'm eligible for the upgrade free. I submitted the proof of purchase, now just waiting for a response.

I still stand by the 'hoses' comment....unless you know to look for this, there is nothing Adobe seemed to put out in front such as "may qualify for free upgrade" link.

Sounds like a steal to me. You got a copy of LR5 for $99.
06/11/2013 01:35:37 AM · #20
Actually $95. Amazon.com had it for $5 less.

Someone to advise me please.

I want to upgrade LR4 to LR5. However hard I try, the site that comes up is KOREA ADOBE. Really frustrating. How can I get around this and simply and easily download the English toy?

Any good

I have a couple of questions about this...

I've had LR3 for quite a few years...I skipped purchasing LR4 waiting until LR5 came out (I've been using the beta program...love it!!). I purchased it last night...

So here are my questions...

1) before I delete my LR3 and LR5 Beta, do I have to 'move' my files someplace else or do I just transfer as I need to to LR5?
2) Can't I give my LR3 program and licensing number to a friend? How?

no. simply run the LR5 install. when you open a catalog it will automatically upgrade the catalog to the newest version of the database.

no. if you purchase an upgrade, it will require the previous version's serial number. once the new version is registered, the old version will not be usable. if you were able to get the old version installed somewhere, that would be a license violation, and you wouldn't want that, would you ;-)

When you activate LR5 with Adobe, it will associate your upgraded license with both you and the qualifying LR3 license code.
