Ah well, if you ever want to know how good you are, just put something up on DPC, you'll quickly realize you're not as good as you hope others think you are ;-) |
I have to ask about the timing here . . . how could you take a photo, enter it in a contest, learn that it was 11th out of 4000+, and still have time to enter a crop from it here at DPC? I'm sure you did - just wondering how the other contest worked that it could be "up and over" so quickly. |

it was open for submissions for a 5 day period (from wed-sun) with rules stating that it had to be entered in the timeframe with a small margin of allowance with regard to date shot (as long as it was shot within the past 2 weeks or so; mine was shot and entered the day it was officially announced) with a chosen winner on monday evening from the entrants. The biggest catch is that any and all editing had to be done using Instagram and submitted through that program with a # tag.
It was put on by a marketing team and they chose 15 images which they considered the best of all the entries, then from those they ranked them on their own personal choice. Mine was 11th overall, the winner had a picture of one of the more prominent looking hotels here from particularly nice vantage point).
It wasn't like here where there's a week of other entrants and non-entrants voting, it was purely a "we're running this contest and we're picking the winner as we see it".
prize was a $500 gift card at a mall here, a weekend-long showcase of images from your body of work (to be provided/chosen by you), a spread in the Metro newspaper here in Ottawa, $500 in "Instagram-related products" from Blacks photography, "and more", valued in total over $2500.
For placing 11th i got nothing, but i did have 3 of my submissions chosen and put up on the main collage-board that had about 100 or so photos (to be eligible to win you were supposed to have entered at least 10 images, including at least one recognizable image taken in the mall that was offering the prizes, to ensure that you're local and will be able to use the winnings yourself)

Ah, I see. Well congratulations - sounds as if you had several quite competitive images. Cool. |

Happens every time. It's the last day, I am busy bumping, and my own score is dropping. Just dropped to the lowest it has been for the entire voting period. |
