Hi, guys -
I need some opinions here. I'm selling my Canon EFS 17-85 and was asking $300 on Craigslist. I got an offer from someone for $225.
Includes:
- rear lens cap
- UV filter
- lens hood
- manual
Missing:
- front lens cap
It is well used but also well cared for. It does have some dust inside, like most 17-85 lenses do. But it does not show up on images.
So---- is $225 a good price, or should I hold out for more? I also could bundle it with a 50D and a 55-250, both of which I'm selling. Thoughts?
Thanks! |

This is a strange lens on the used market, as it doesn't hold value as well as many Canon lenses tend to, likely because it was a kit lens that ends up being sold more often than most lenses.
In any case, looking at the market on EBay, I'd say jump on the $225, since anything over $250 seems unlikely.

Oh wait - You're selling a 50D?
There's some stuff you might not know about that's going on because of Magic Lantern.
The 50D is likely going to jump in price over the next few weeks, as the ML guys just unlocked RAW video on the 50D - and the results even at ISO 12,800 are stunning, looks as good as the dedicated cinema systems that cost 20x as much.
If I were selling my 50D today, I'd wait about two to four weeks.

It's a decent price. I bought one from Scalvert a few years back for $200, but he gave me an attractive deal on it because he felt guilty about the 20D I bought from him that went Ka-Blooey after a couple of months.

Has it had the fixed price repair on the ribbon cable? It's a known fault and they are very prone to it, mine was a £70 fix |
