I cant seem to install the Canon utility on an HP netbook mini with win 7 starter. The native on the hp mini is 1024/600. The Canon software requires a minimum of 768. Anybody find a workaround? |

Run a VM with VMWare, then you can set your resolution as high as you wish.

I think there is a way of fooling the adapter into running a higher resolution than the screen is capable of displaying, but I don't know offhand what to do to get that.

3rd party drivers do this sometimes, but it's so card specific that I figured it'd be easier to virtualize the machine instead.
Of course, he's still likely to run into issues, but theoretically it should work fine as long as he has sufficient RAM and Processor to handle it - XP would be a good choice if the Canon software is compatible with that.

I think the method I heard of was to hook up an external monitor, which even an old cheapie will be at least 1024x768. Install the software, then unhook the external monitor. Haven't tried it myself. The success of this method is dependent on whether the Canon software checks the monitor on every usage, or only on installation.
