In the utilities section, get yourself the client apps for your cloud storage stuff, dropbox and the rest. |
Yup. Bad addiction... Where's the "Utilities Section"? Is that "Apps"? |
I meant, download the apps for whatever you are using for cloud storage - dropbox, sugarsync, etc. You can find them on the store for free.
I found dropbox very useful for picture/videos sharing between devices at home - two laptops, phones, PC and iPad.

I prefer Google Drive. :) |
Well, I already have a dropbox account and the dropbox app is added. Tell me about Google drive. |

It's nearly identical. Just linked to your gmail account (or in my case, an Apps account)..
The draw for me, is being a Google user, it allows me to use a native Google app on my Google Nexus tablet. It's just a more 'pure' solution. No other real advantages though. |

What do you use it for Robert. There are so many great apps out there that I can't recommend favorites without knowing what the tablet is for.
2 essentials- AppBrain App Market- Lets you review and download apps, they sync and manage them.
Lookout mobile security. If you are going to be using your tablet out in public, you need to run something to keep the bad guys out. |

Reading books and news, keeping an eye on DPC, cruising FlipBook, playing games, all without being wedded to the computer. The books I had before on my Kindle, but it wouldn't do any of the other stuff (original Kindle, not Fire).
I honestly don't know where this is gonna lead me, it's terra incognita to me right now. I'm one day in so far, LOL. I'm trying to avoid letting my decades of computer experience saddle me with an archaic approach to the newer technology. |

Existing users will be able to adjust their account settings to hold onto that free storage, but new users will get just 7GB.

One joy of the open platform is being able to download library ebooks. Link
You download whatever app the library uses, and you get a licence to have the book on you drive for a certain amount of time. |

We now have two Nook HD+'s I bought the family on Mother's Day (awesome deal for 32GB with a micro SD expansion slot for $210 - now $299) and a Nook Tablet I just converted to Jelly Bean, so this thread is very timely for me. I haven't found any killer apps yet except TuneIn radio and iHeart radio. |

google now.
simply awesome. probably much better on a phone than a tablet, but...
a few things it can do that i just discovered:
location and time based reminders: you can say "get a hammer at homedepot" and whenever you go to homedepot it will remind you, you can also have it remind you ate a specific time to do something or simply "at night" or "in the morning"
if you use Google calendar and you have your appointment location filled in with an address or simply a place's name, it will show you a card with how long it will take you to get to that location from your current location (taking traffic into account) and will remind you to leave when you must to get there on time.
i have mine setup to show photo locations so if im in a specific area im not familiar with it will show me popular photo attractions as well as other stuff that happening in the area.
its really cool all the stuff you can use, of course im sure the paranoid androids out there will balk, but i for one enjoy the privacy tradeoffs.

another tool critical for phone automation is Tasker, i'm sure you can find some use for it on a tablet though.

Not quite :-) Penny and I are veterans of match-3 games, and this is a very good one. Now if they'd just have a version of Zuma for android...
ETA: Holy Moses! |
Well, I'm a Candy Crush player veteran addict now. My lord, what a game... |

Doodle God or Alchemy classic are pretty good; if you really want to waste time Tiny Tower and Scramble are fantastic for that. |

I'm happy to say I finally beat level 147 (purely by dumb luck) and have now progressed to level 152, where I am now stuck again. LOL! Have fun with it. It gets sooooo much harder.

Now that this thread has been necroed, I realize I asked a question and then left the room. No one has mentioned some sort of security. The more stuff we keep on our mobile devices, like credit card information and remote banking, the more people are out to steal that information. Using public WiFi and Bluetooth is an easy way for people to find your device so protection is essential. I am a big fan of Lookout a fairly low power hungry background app that scans new downloads and keeps an eye on I/O requests to check for malwear.
Gasbuddy is a great app when you are on a road trip to tell you where the next gas station is, and where you can get the best prices before you hit empty.
And my favorite game not mentioned yet, is Sudoku (one of the few games that is much more fun to play on a device than on paper). |

We have the Sudoku. Penny likes Sudoku a LOT.
Gasbuddy won't work for me because I am wi-fi only, no 3G/4G. I'll take a look at Lookout. |
