Maybe this will be a very high scoring challenge.

I would like to buy the latest set of voters a drink. A 0.4 rise in the last hour.

The 20 vote nadir, which I have been experiencing on every challenge.

4.7. I think the pace will pick up as the week goes on...

I'm not so sure. I usually go through a challenge before I vote and then come back and vote later, but this is one where I jumped right in - so few entries, I knew I could do 100% easy. By the time I had finished, I was sorry I had started and wished there was a way to back out. About 90% shoehorns IMO, many of them so far off, I couldn't figure any connection. I give as high as 6 for excellent DNMC's, but still . . .

LOL! I meant the pace of my plummnet. I agree, every entry is a shoehorn including mine. But like I stated in the other thread about this challenge, this is a "holiday" in the US that means nothing more than a party with a Mexican theme. It's only recently gotten attention with the proliferation of Mexican restaurants/bars.

I live in a community which, seasonally, is majority hispanic. Most of those people are legal immigrant workers from Mexico. If one uses an open mind, almost all the entries meet the challenge. However, if some had a preconceived notion about Cinco de Mayo, then one can kill with DNMC votes all that don't fit through one's narrow slit of a challenge description window. It's too bad. This used to be a site about quality photography. There used to be less emphasis on meeting a narrow definition (more narrow than intended) of a challenge and more emphasis on quality photography which met the litmus test of generally satisfying the challenge description.

My entry fully meets the challenge, but one would have to know the region, the country of Mexico and its culture to understand the significance. Most voters will make a split second decision and move on as fast as they can... or as fast as the voting system will allow.

So, my challenge to voters is to comment as to why my image does not meet Cinco de Mayo to them, based on their knowledge and experience in the region.

May 5 is a special day here in the Netherlands since 1945 (Liberation Day), so I guess we have something in common with the Mexicans. Not unhappy with my score, but it's not special.
