Initially I wanted to shot something Mexican, you know some beverage, food, a sombrero... and just enter for the sake of it. Then I checked the wiki explanation and I reconsidered.
That being said, I was born and raised in East Europe, I lived more then 15 years in Asia , to my own shame, I have never until now heard about this. Considering the number of entries I would like to see what other members think about. Just curiosity

| I thought of entering as we'll and looked for some cinco de mayo celebrations in my area but none were around. I didn''t want to do just a still life with a sombrero etc as I don't feel that represents Mexican heritage at its best. Perhaps that is why there are so few entries. |

| In the US, Cinco de Mayo is just a party day where you head out to your local Mexican restaurant/bar and get half off your tequila shots and margaritas. And while I understand the significance for a certain portion of Mexican's, it just doesn't mean the same thing to most of America. It can be classified along with St. Paddy's day (ya know, when everyone is Irish). |

| The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. That doesn't just mean tequila bottles and sombreros. I thought about this challenge and selected a subject which says "Mexico" to me in both origin and May 5. It remains to be seen whether a creative entry will once again be treated with open minds. I hope so. |

| Well, we don't have any sort of Cinco de Mayo festivites around here that i'm aware of, so i went out and shot something that says cinco de mayo to me. |

This thought that Cinco de Mayo is not almost exclusively about drinking and partying is nuts. That is about as nuts as saying St Patrick's day is about more than just drinking(and fighting and corned beef)... sure there is an "element" of pride of heritage, just like there is pride in Oktoberfest for Germans, which, coincidentally is almost exclusively about drinking.
Columbus Day, an italian pride day, on the other hand, has not been usurped by drunks, but by protesting Native Americans. And BAstille day, in America, is simply a Rush song and an excuse to ask "what the hell is poutine?"
So if it means more will enter, let the debauchery flow. |

I was just about to remove my entry but I think the idea of getting the brown is appealing. Lets see who gets the closest. |
