someone should suggest a challenge like this... "Make a cardboard figure like show here (add website above) and then photograph your figure in an interestingly composed scene."
-m
p.s. although, after further inspection, this figure doesn't look like was made out of cardboard at all, but rather wood or wood-looking plastic.

They are so cute and the models can be bought online. They are from those Japanese Manga series of books. "Danboard or Danbo for short is Miura Hayasaka in a cardboard box robot suit from Chapter 28 in the Japanese manga series Yotsuba&!. Miura convinces Yotsuba that she is a robot and runs on money"
The model figure is from the Revoltech line by the company Kaiyodo. The figure is plastic, has movable joints, light up eyes and stands around 5â tall. There are several versions of Danbo ranging from the original full sized unbranded to a mini Amazon version, full sized Amazon and 7Eleven logo branded versions.
I don't read Manga but I saw the pictures and did a little research to see how they were made |

This challenge topic is truly a great one for the TPL to use. I'm glad they will not skip this one for their Side Challenge tournament. |

The tournament gets to pick and choose challenge topics?
Maybe the schedule should be made public, as the team voting activity has a significant effect on the non-TPL participants. If we knew where the TPL activity was occurring, we could choose to stand aside. At least we'd have the option. (And, no, I'm not going to search through all the forums to dig out the information about the TPL schedule. This is becoming tedious.)

If you read the TPL thread you'd know what TPL was finished about a week ago. So none of the last 4 or so challenges have been TPL. There's a short hiatus before the finale between the two teams who won their respective divisions.

Don't have time to wade through the voluminous TPL threads, especially the ones which are bluster and bombast. Can't tell the official ones from the trash talk. So, which future challenge(s) will be occupied by the TPL finals? |

It hasnt been scheduled yet as far as I know, but Im sure MAK and Cory will post the dates and challenges as soon as its decided. Maybe they can PM you the information as well so you wont have to look for it. |

Ok, Thanks! I would like to avoid (voting, commenting, entering) the challenges where the TPL finals occur. |

Richard, I really don't understand the TPL monster that you have created for yourself. You won't even comment on photos during the TPL final? If I recall, you were actually intending to participate in the TPL until a former member â someone who deactivated their account before the TPL even began â threatened to low-score your photos. So you've taken the antagonistic words of a deactivated member and are holding it against the entire TPL event, and all who have participated.
Regardless, the final is between 12 photographers on the site. It's of little to no consequence to DPC. |

I'm glad Enlightened posted the first Cardboard Box Challenge. It was a fun contest with a lot of original thinking and worth checking out again.
I looked at my entry from then and cringed a little, but it still was crazy-fun. Gotta go think up another entry now. |

Strikeslip made this post #46 in this thread, "I hate Colorado mountain scenes, and will be voting 1's on them." If slippy is one of the members of a final team, I already know (by his own words) how my photography is going to be treated in a death match.
Additionally, there was a recent forum thread which was out-of-line. I was offended by a team asking for votes. Sure, it's all a big joke, right? I laughed. But, then, there is a substantial amount of what appears to be cut-throat behavior.
Furthermore, my attempt to join in "the humor" garnered insults and hate mail. Some of the most insulting reactions came from a TPL member who had just been awarded a couple of blue ribbons. "PFT" A winner without grace.
All things considered, I'll just get out of the way of this kind of behavior. It's not what I signed up for.
(eta: I did file complaints through the proper channels. AFAIK, no corrective action was applied.)

Oh yes, before I forget, I have to revisit this image that took 3rd place last time in July 2008...
Do you suppose those kittens would still fit into boxes now?

I wonder if any other "NON" TPL members feel the same way as Hahn23?
