Here's a video I made just now, a little tug o' war with Yuuki. She's not very amped up, though. Probably still a little worn out from laying sod. When she's full of beans she does some pretty good growling during tug o' war, so I still have to catch that on video.

Today working on a sweet potato chew. Hard work, but she's tenacious.

Yuuki now knows outside is the place to do her bizzness. We're thinking of hanging some bells from the back door knob and showing her how to ring them to be let out.

Works for a lot of people. My dogs will usually just go and sit by the back door to let me know they want to go out. |

Sometimes you don't WANT the dog to go out... Obviously, not when they have business to attend to, but other times, eh.... |

You can always lock the doggy door.

She's does that, but the problem is we don't know she's there, and I was too late getting there once, oops!
The back door goes into the garage, and a second door to the back yard, so we'd need two doggy doors, and pretty big ones as she will be GSD/Lab sized when full grown. I'm not sure how I feel about how secure dog doors are against burglars when locked. When unlocked, I guess there will be a three-quarters GSD on the other side, so good luck to the perp. (Mom is GSD, dad is GSD/Lab mix. Does that mean 3/4ths GSD?) Doggy door is a good idea, I'll mention it to the boss.
The fence on two sides of the yard is only about four or five feet high, so we may have to do something about that in a while.

Whoa, that's awesome! I'll definitely get a couple as soon as I win the lottery! Heck, I'd like a human-sized one of those too!

I have one for the cats. It's pretty much totally worth it. Granted, cat sized doors cost much less than huge fricken dog sized doors. |

Uh yeah methinks that fence needs to be raised to probably 6 ft min. 4-5 feet won't keep in a dog that big who wants to get out. The great dog actor Rin Tin Tin (pure GS)was able to leap something ridiculous like 12ft high walls.
But if fence-raising isn't an option, try this: dig a ditch 4ft deep and 4 ft wide on your side of the fence. Top said fence with angled-inwards hot wire (electric fencing). That's how they keep in the canids at a wildlife park in PQ (blanking on the name, it's on the way up to Montebello) seems to work. Have yet to see one of their arctic wolves loping down the main road. |

A couple of shots a from when she was 12 weeks old. She's 15 weeks old now and I just thought to update this thread because she farts like a champ. When she cuts the cheese, you know it!

gotta love them dog farts. My youngest pug, Sherman, can clear a room!
Yuki sure is looking cute. Nice shots - except those with your gnarly toe nails showing.
Maybe you cant train her to chew them down for you. ;)

She already licks between my toes. I'm sure she'd love to chew my toes right off with those needle-teeth if I let her.
We are having a heck of a time with loose poops. First poop in the morning starts out solid enough to pick up OK, but ends very loose and messy. They get worse throughout the day. She also spends extra time trying to poo out more, making me think that she's having a feeling of incomplete evacuation. Though the volume she poos out each day, especially first of the day, seems normal and large. So I don't think she's constipated.
The vet tested a stool sample and no worms or bad results.
She started off at the breeder on Royal Canin chow, and we switched her over (20% mix-switch per day) to Acana chow. Both highly rated. We chose Acana as it's highest rated and local. We spare no expense.
We give her the recommended volume per day, according to the manufacturer, in three meals, lunch is smaller as we'll phase that meal out to two per day as suggested by the vet.
We're going to give the Acana a few more days before we try another brand.
We don't give her any human food, and only a very small volume of dog treats. The treats are tiny for training purposes, but pretty effective, as they get her attention.
Yuuki's spirits remain very high!
Yuuki has a vet appointment on Thursday for the last of her immunizations, and my wife will get the vet's opinion on the loose bms then. We like this vet a lot, she also has our cats as clients.
I've signed up for lessons with Yuuki starting July 9th, how exciting! There are several 'grades' all the way up to competitive, off-leash obstacle courses.

Good luck with the food thing Slippy, i tried just about all the decent dry foods for our boy Gap, so far the only food he's good (and solid) on is Taste Of The Wild, the fish one. I would prefere to feed him Orijen or Acana but he just doesn't do good on it. Solid poops are wonderful things. |

Try about a tablespoon of canned pumpkin in her kibble. Not pumpkin pie filling, just canned pumpkin. It keeps well in the frige and gives them enough fiber to ...firm things up. |

My dog breeder friend (Standard Poodles) seconds this and has used it with her own dogs, so it's safe and works. Go for it! *facepalm at bad pun* |

I've fed my guys Solid Gold for years. Their bm's stay solid and this food is also high rated. Never been a recall on Solid Gold in all the yrs I have fed them it, unlike other brands. |

I agree, great idea. I've fed it to mine from time to time, mainly as a healthy additive to their food, but also when ate something that gave them loose stools - like treats from well intentioned friends/family

I've also read that in my googling.
Solid Gold sales pitch... "Your dog will poo solid gold!" I'll take a look to see if Pet World has it the next time I'm in. I like to shop there because it's walking distance from our house and Yuuki can come in with me. The folks that work there fawn over her and give her treats, so she likes it too. Sometimes there's other dog butt in there to sniff and life is good.
