I need some help from all my northeast US DPCers.
My wife an I are celebrating our 10yr anniversary in August. Since a large vacation is out of the question for a myriad or reasons, I'd like to surprise her with a little getaway for a few days.
No big cities (Philly, NYC, Baltimore, etc)
End of august
Within a 2-3hr drive of south jersey
Things to do during the day, good restaurants and relaxing bars at night.
Not the beach (we are going away to the Jersey shore for a weekend for my friends wedding two weeks later so I'd prefer something different)
We don't gamble
Picturesque ( i do like to take pictures remember :) )
I get bored extremely easily so sitting around relaxing all day isn't my idea of fun. I need stuff to do and see.
I was thinking about St. Michaels in Maryland, but i was wondering if you guys had any other ideas.
fire away!

I know Im not from the NE...but How about renting a cabin and going white water rafting.. How far is the Poconos mountains to you. I have been down the Snake river and the Buffalo river a few times and had a blast

Poconos are only about 2hrs away. I had thought about that as well, not the rafting but the location.

I second the Poconos. Love to be there in the summer. They have some awesome crystal clear lakes and lots to do. //www.800poconos.com/ |

St. Michael's is a shore-type place. A little laid back and one note unless you want to drive to Annapolis or DC. Where are you going at the Jersey Shore? That's where I am if you need a tour guide. |

i grew up boating on the northeast Chesapeake and have always enjoyed it but i have never stayed in st. michaels, my wife ha always bugged me to stay there. we have always enjoyed that area.
the wedding is in cape may, im in the wedding party so we will be having a weekend away from the kids at shore that weekend for a few days so i didn't want to do the beach so soon to this one. seems redundant.
the chesapeake and the Poconos are my fallback options, but we've done that before so im looking for something different.

St. Michael's is very much like Cape May. It's shopping in small shops, boating and restaurants. I was a little surprised at how much like Cape May it was. If you play golf I believe there are some pretty nice courses there. I stayed in a hotel on one of the courses and it was pretty nice. (I'm 4 miles from Cape May so if you need anything let me know.) |

If you're heading to the Poconos from South Jersey, you could stop by Bushkill Falls if you're nature lovers. I think there are also some caves on the way, but not sure.

ok, so i'm still looking for a place. the wife was bugging me to stay at a resort in Virginia on the chesapeake and if we are driving that far I'd rather go to New England.
so any good reasonably priced resorts or nice hotels for a 2-3 night stay. I'd like to stay south of Boston (to keep the driving to under 6hrs), preferably along the coast. |

Newport might be an option, its maritime but not beachy. |
