Some pictures from the Phoenix zoo last weekend for critique. It was too hot to stay too long so I didn't get much.
Also, if anyone knows what the name of that first bird is I'd appreciate it.

some kind of (grey) crested crane (?). There is a RICH guy aobut 2 miles from me that has a bunch of these running around his enclosed property.

You did a very nice job with these... Looks like your new camera is serving you well :-)
My absolute favorites are the Ostrich, Swan, Zebra and Turtles.
I do like that Crowned Crane a lot... Everything seems to be positioned well here, so composition is good. Great capture with the bird looking right at you. Looks like you used a somewhat deep dof and I wonder how the picture would be if it were shallower. Either way - I don't think the dof hurts you in this case. Lighting is good even though you have some sunny spots and shady spots in the image. The bird has some great coloring, maybe it could just use a little fill flash?
The Ostrich is just great. Love everything about this capture. It could stand for some fill flash, which you can add in Photoshop.
The Goat doesn't do much for me, but that's more personal than image quality. I like the capture and tight crop... lighting and dof seems good also.
This Swan image is very pretty - I really like the tonal range you chose for this one. I think 'Shy' is a good title... DOF is good... lighting seems good everywhere except the very end of her head near her beak... almost seems a little dark just in that spot.
The Goose is a good image, again your lighting could have hurt you with the mixture of shade and sun, but it didn't here. My only thought on this one is that because of her coloring she seems to blend with the background... there is nothing making her 'pop' except the color of her beak.
The Zebra is great... I really like the tonal range you used. I can't tell if it's the tonal range or just the lighting in the picture, but could it be just a bit dark? Either way - I really like it.
The Turtles - now this just has to be my favorite of all of them. It's a fun image and makes me laugh everytime I see it. Here you have great lighting and dof. Great composition... there's really nothing I can suggest to make it better. The bigger turtle has some great color in him too....
Great job! :-)
