| I currently own photoshop elements but thinking about upgrading to photoshop 7.0. Is it worth the investment? I shoot weddings mostly. |

There is a newer version of PS avilble (CS instead of 7.0).
I think nobody can answere that question but you, yourself. What extra features do you get out of full version of PS and do you think you´ll be using them alot?
If so how much money are you ready to spend for the extra features? |

| It looks like you would have more control with black n white tones! Also this thing called curves? |

I don't think that curves is worth the cost for full Photoshop. It is certainly a useful tool, but it comes with Paint Shop Pro for a lot less than Photoshop, or you can add it to Elements (the easiest way is to get the book The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements, which describes a lot of useful techniques for controlling tones (and colors too!) as well as providing useful tools like curves).
If you shoot in RAW mode, then Photoshop CS could be very useful since it can read them directly. Although RAW files are twice the size of JPEG's, I think using RAW would be very useful for wedding photography. You don't have to worry about white balance while you are shooting since the conversion is done during postprocessing, and you can underexpose slightly to be sure not to blow the details in the white dress and still get decent tonal range since RAW uses 12 bits/channel instead of 8. RAW conversion is not itself worth the cost of Photoshop; excellent stand-alone converters are available for much less. But the streamlined workflow with it integrated into Photoshop might be.
The other question to ask is what else you might spend the money on. The cost of Photoshop would buy another lens or some basic studio lighting. But ultimately, it's your choice! |
